ANOTHER WORLD SERIES for the Red Sox . . .
Can you believe it? Two out of four years . . . and this after going 86 years without ONE!
Now we can move on to the Patriots . . . 8-0 . . . and crushing all opponents!

A truly great story. Sox have the ability to repeat next year. On the other hand are we looking at a total collapse of the Yankee empire? Prediction....Steinbrenner will end up firing his own son Hank who hasn't made a very good impression in the big apple as I understand.
Maybe the Cubs can hold it together next year. Would be great to see them in there after all their suffering!

Congrats to the Red Sox! My only gripe about the situation was the long wait between the end of the LCS and the start of the Series. Not only does it tend to not reward teams who win their league early, it just takes out all of the excitement ... after the layoff, it took a lot to get me back into the game, so to speak and only then, to have the any-baseball-is-good-baseball fan in me be disappointed by yet another WS sweep ...
Come on, Selig. Let's get the schedule right. And I guess it's now time for the A-Rod sweepstakes .... it's gonna be crazier than that which accompanied Matsuzaka! I've heard Cubs and Angels.

Well the Angels sure could use the power and run production, but then so can lots of clubs. I have a sneaking suspicion that the winning bidder will engage in some creative payment scheduling, sort of like a sweepstakes winner getting so much per year for X number of years. This might prove appealing to A-Rod, who hardly needs another million or thirty in his jeans. Guaranteeing his family security even unto the umpteenth generation might turn the trick - how about 10 million a year for a hundred years, adjusted for inflation? The first "Billion Dollar Baby!!!!!"
Gordie, hell, I could afford that!!................................................................

Trish:
Jacoby Ellsbury, the young rookie for the BoSox is part Navajo. I believe his mother is Navajo and father is White. He is the first Navajo to play in a World Series. And what a job he did!
The reason the delay for the World Series was because the Rockies swept their opponent, while the Sox/Indians went 7.
How much the wait hurt the Rockies may have played a part in their defeat. Still, the way the Sox played, no one may have beaten them. It might have gone longer, but in the end the NL teams are no match for the ALers!

A-Rod is a great player but lacks the one thing that separates him from truly greats: HEART!
The Red Sox should resign Mike Lowell and give up on A-Rod.

And presenting ... the New York Yankees' new manager:
Joe Girardi!
Seems Papa George has finally stopped running the team (into the ground)!

The Yankees are old and falling apart. A-Rod is gone, Damon (while I love) is on the down-side, Giambi's steroid-use may have caused physical damage and will not be a plus, Posada, who had an outstanding year, is at least 35, The Rocket is grounded for good. The team is going to need major rebuidling, but with their money may be able to buy some good players. But I doubt there'll be a major threat to the BoSox for a while.
At least Girardi, an Italian, would fit in great in NY!

Yup ... the Yanks have tanked, I suppose. And they're old as the hills. Another big issue is the upcoming free-agent pitcher class which has been ranked by many as the weakest in several years. The big ticket possibility--Carlos Zambrano--has already been re-signed by the Cubs ... so, who can the Yanks buy other than a few new Japanese free agents?

Worse move in the world...letting Torre get away. This is suppose to be some sort of transition period for the Yankees as Hank Steinbrenner takes control of the club from his father. I'm not impressed and understand fans in the Big Apple are getting a little po'd at what's goin' on there. In the long run all the money in the world can't buy talent that isn't available on the market, so we'll see.
The thing about Girardi is that he has a reputation for alienating players under him. Don't know how that'll play out NY.

Most of the Yankee free agents will be signing elsewhere . . . so no one left to listen to him.
Pats & Colts this Sunday . . . BIG game with Pats winning 34-21.

Does anyone remember a guy named Buck Showalter? Does anyone remember a rookie named Bernie Williams or another rookie named Derek Jeter, and yet another rookie named Jorge Posada? Or a rookie named Mariano Rivera? Does anyone remember a shrewd pick-up named Paul O'Neill, and another named Scott Brosious? (I'm butchering the spelling here, I think.)
Oh-h-h, ye of such short memories! Gloat while ye can, dream if ye must, hope if ye wish to...
But remember... listen for the footsteps.
Oh, and remember something. Joe Torre was a bum before he inherited that team, just like Terry Francona was and is a bum today. If you think Francona could have won 2 World Series with a lesser cast... crackers! And guess what... unless Frank McCourt provides Torre with all the talent in the National League world, dearly beloved Joe will revert back to bum status and he'll take Donny Baseball with him.
The day of the Icon is dead (except in computers and the Eastern Orthodox rites). The day of the smart-thinker, hard-driver manager and GM is upon us. Theo is Boston's best asset and now he can pit his numbers games against the Yankee money (read, whirlwind).
I predict this post will one day be raised to the status of Nostradamus' best and will become the masthead for these boards. Herein lies the truth. Remember something: the World Trade Center was New York City! It shall rise again. The Yankees are New York... [add the corollary here: ...]
(Is that World Trade Center comment in bad taste? Oh well! I fought in Vietnam, the only loser we've ever had.)
Best wishes, Weasel Fred.
PS-- All seances have been pushed back an hour to take full advantage of the encroaching darkness.

Alas . . . the poor Yankees have now fallen on hard times . . . A-Rod has abandoned the ship (like the rat he is) . . . Torre got insulted and left for greener (or should I say Dodger Blue) pastures . . . Rivera won't resign without Torre and The Rocket has petered out (unless some fool will pay him a gazillion dollars). Who's left: Jeter, Damon, Giambi, Chamberlain (who is overblown) and few no-names. Oh, yes . . . George Steinbrenner (Old-Timers disease?)
It may be another 86 years (does that ring any bells?) before the Yankees win another world series.
