Sorry, Diane--but I have to gloat and bring up ... uhh ... baseball:
[/b]
And life is good. I'm just afraid when I pinch myself next, I'll wake the heck up .... sigh. I just wish Mr. Sweetie was here to rub it in. He was sooo certain this was gonna be "next year."

To quote a famous philosopher: Cubs win! Cubs win!
I am fairly certain that the end of the world is at hand...

Oh, I'm sorry!!
Did I miss the part where the World Series was over and the Cubs had won?
Do the words "chickens" and "bridges" ring any bells? As in counting and crossing, and like that?
Fan interference!! Black Magic!! Coises!!!!! Zambrano falls off a barstool; Lee stubs his toe; Sweet Lou has a mental block and forgets the names of the shortstop and second baseman [much like me]; Lilly remembers he is a .500 pitcher, at best.
Take me out to the ball game...................................................
Gordie, and there's a drive to deep right-center. Back goes Kingman............................................

Hey I was just trying to let Trish experience what being in first place fell like so don't go and try to put some voodoo curse on them...
I'm a dyed-in-the-wool St. Louis Cardinal fan. I've had more than my share of happiness through the years!

Well, I dunno, Scout. Your glove looks kinda beat up, and that bat looks home-made to me. On the other hand, you do have a new pair of shoes, and I heard that you spent some time in the Mudville nine, albeit on the bench.
Heck, kid, Say Hey Willie, Cobb and Dimaggio ain't available, so grab that mitt and hit the field!!
Gordie, just to hit the ball, and touch 'em all - a moment in the sun. It's gone, and you can kiss that one goodbye................................................................

The world truly has ended. RHP Kerry Wood was activated this morning ... sending RP Rocky Cherry (the second-best porno name in the game after Buck Coates) back to the minors. He'll be avaliable for this afternoon's game, should the onion truck from Iowa get through the never-ending construction on the Kennedy Expressway ... perhaps Hendry and company should have hired a private jet and limo a la Doug Mirabelli?
What's amazing about all of this is that the team's future no longer rests upon the fragile arm of the Wood-meister. W-O-W ... management is capable of learning a lesson.
Let's go, Cubbies! Thrash the Mets ... and NO black cats. Please. --t.

number 755 what? Gordie, I had a little beetle, so that "Beetle" was his name, and I called him "Alexander" and he answered just the same. But Nanny let my beetle out...........................................................

Tricia:
I saw Wood in a brief relief appearance last night against the Mets , and his stuff looked pretty good. Fastball in the mid-nineties and that sharp "downer" that we used to call a "dropball" in the old days. But I couldn't help noticing [at my age, one tends to notice these things] that he looked to have lost an awful lot of weight since I last remembered seeing him throw.
Has he been unwell, in addition to his arm problems, do you know??
Too bad about Soriano. Not my fault.
Gordie, where are Jack Pfiester and Mordecai Brown when you need them?....................................

Woody made an effort to lose weight over the winter--I think someone has placed the total loss at about 50 pounds. Perhaps The Experts think the extra-poundage put more stress upon That Hallowed Twenty Strike Out Shoulder during his delivery ... but no, the only unwellness he's suffered this year is when he bruised his rib getting out of a hot tub during ST (yes, only that kind of thing happens to the Cubbies), well, that and The Arm.
Seems they're calling up EPatt to replace Soriano on the roster, rather than Pie. Grade Three strain on right quad ... ouch. Fonzie thinks he'll be back in late August; I'm not so sure ... but IMHO, Fonze has been a bit of a disappointment at lead-off.
And yes, Crazeee ... Go Red Sox!! --t.

Sox are starting to lose ground to those dratted Yankees!
Sox are on a West Coast trip playing good teams and are struggling. The Yankees are playing some also-ran teams and mopping them up. The Yanks still have a toughg schedule coming up. We'll see if they can stand up to it.

Don't remind me, Crz ... the Cubbies are mired in a three game losing streak and fortunately--for us--so is the Brew Crew. Sometimes I just hate that baseball season is 162 games long ... I'll cross my fingers for you. A Cubbie/Red Sox WS is just too delicious not to sample ... !
Oh, yeah. Heard Barry Bonds* hit a homer yesterday ... wasn't it important or something like that? Maybe not.

Sox still hangin' on to a 5 game lead.
It's always amazes me when Red Sox fans wake up to a Red Sox victory and a Yankee loss. Suddenly the world is a better place and everything is gonna be OK. When the Sox lose and Yankees win . . . it's the end of the world!

OK Trish, you need to get a monkey's paw and a dead cat....go to the cemetery at midnight and say some voodoo words over the meanest person buried there to help the Cubs! I'm told it works every time. They're going to have to pick up the pace if they want to stay in the race.
Phillies too! Go National League!!!!
