I'm new to these boards myself, but I'd like to welcome you both Grandma and Frank ! Hope to share some great moments with you here. I have read your posts, Grandma, and have enjoyed the information you've shared. Keep it up! And Frank, I have enjoyed the pictures you've posted. Was amazed to hear you are from Finland. Awhile back I was compiling volumes on Horse Breeds of the World, and a lot of the websites were from Finland. Wow, is that language a bugger to translate !!!! But I enjoyed every moment of it, and the Finns are very smart people. So welcome you both aboard !!! Montana born and bred (BAB)

Don't be taken in by that Fred guy - he likes his Franks with onions and ballpark brown mustard.
And Bubba will be accepted as a member of the English-speaking world when he stops saying" Rad the war," when he means: "Ride the wire."

And he'll only have his ballpark Franks and mustard with this pinkie wine he loves.
Inside joke, y'all.

Gordie, Fred, Bubbabod (Frank), Montana Bab... thanks for your words . Yeap, Im a Finn though my name is Frank (which indeed is not a traditional Finnish name) thanks to my father...I dunno what brainstorm he had when I was born but thats how he decided it was gonna be so... here I am, a Frank from Finland LOL... if I would have a traditional Finnish name it could be like Pekka, Matti or Jukka. Just to give an example . It is weird how someone in Japan may be so interested on Finnish history, our Laplanders etc...then I am into the Plains Indians and some one from U.S. studies Samurai... its a merry-go-round LOL.. well, hell, I think that it is important that you are interested in something! It is good to be here. Thanks guys.

You know, I'm getting a little tired of all this glad-handing claptrap. It's about time we take stock of exactly who we have here. First of all, for all you newcomers, there are three identifiable ringers on these boards:
1. Gordie, aka, harpskiddie 2. d o harris, aka Le Phantome de l'Histoire 3. Elisabeth, aka several people, a compilation of curators & doyens of 6 British museums and institutes, including the Globe Theatre and the Royal Museum. You talk about the Elgin Marbles...!
So be careful what you post and what you say up here. And don't let "harpskiddie" lull you to sleep w/ that welcoming gibberish he posts. The guy's written 16 books, all on different areas of Americana and Canadian-cana. And he's only 43, hiding behind a smokescreen. I've done my homework here, Harper!!!!
As for you, Elisabeth... !
Best wishes, Fred.

Dearest Fred,
Is this your rather kind way of saying to us newcomers: "SHUT THE HELL UP!" ??
P.S. I can only speak for myself, but you don't have to remind me of the calibre of the masters on this website. Every post makes that abundantly clear! Respectfully bowing, Bab

Is this your rather kind way of saying to us newcomers: "SHUT THE HELL UP!" ?? Montana-- Absolutely not! I have no right to tell you anything of the sort, nor would I ever do such a thing. You have demonstrated every right to be on these boards and your opinions are already respected, certainly by me. Best wishes, Fred.

Fred;
Whew! Coming from you, that is VERY much appreciated ! One of the reasons I hope to continue on this website is because of the calibre of the individuals who participate. And if I live long enough, the amount I can learn is incredible.
Thank you, Bab

Goodness ... the Americans are up awfully early for a Sunday morn. That said, allow me to chip in and welcome both Montana (I feel like Keith Carradine when I say that), and the Finn, Frank.
But a question, Frank; have you ever heard of a town/city named Kuuno? I've yet to find the place. Ignatz Stungewicz of C Company was from there--whilst it was still part of Russia.

Well errmmm... no sorry I havent. Kuuno is old Finnish name (male) but I havent heard about place called Kuuno. I didnt even find it on a map that shows the part of Finland that we lost to Russia at the war. Here is one map, yellow areas are from our eastern border the places we lost to Russia after Winter War: What do you wanna know about this place?

Fred:
You'll be glad to know that I have almost finished [no pun intended] my latest book. I'm on the next-to-last chapter [or penultimate, as we writers say] now, and should have the last bit read by Tuesday. That will make an even twenty that I've read so far; but later this year I'm going to expand my horizons and try a Mickey Spillane.
