Abby Grace:
The 7th Ranch offers horseback tours [you can supply your own horses to save money], but I'm not sure what areas these actually cover. It would be too late, probably, for this year. but you might check with them to find out routes, costs etc etc.
Hope you guys hook up and have fun.
Gordie, I ride an old paint,; I lead an old dam; I'm off to Montana to throw a houlihan........................

Here's their website: www.historicwest.com/Sandy and Chip Watts are great people. I have visited them but not stayed there. By all accounts, the ranch experience is great.

Thanks for the response, Melani. We'll look for you there, I'm dragging my adult daughter with me. She's a History major and thoughly enmeshed in the Civil War era but not so interested in the IW's- she will come kicking and screaming. You two may have things to discuss, she's a Humboldt victim.. I mean graduate. She also finds my obsession with Myles a bit scary . We'd really love to take our horses over there and ride the trails. Is that allowed if you aren't part of the reenactment? I asked the Park "guy" at the entrance the last time I was there, but he didn't seem to know and pretty much just grunted at us.. Marissa You're kidding! MY adult daughter is also with me, and she will be starting at Humboldt in September, having just graduated from CR! We certainly must meet up! Don't know about horses, but you should ask the folks at the Visitor Center, and keep asking until you find somebody that knows. To Melani and Abby Grace: If you get a chance to see the Real Bird Reenactment be sure to ask for "California Joe" (Mark Wilson). He is one of the bearded guys who is in the Lewis and Clark skit. He is a former professor at Humbolt and I am sure knows the faculty there quite well. Tell him Keogh says hello. As far as riding horses on the battlefield goes, you will not get approval from the NPS to do this. However, if you join the Preservation Committee, you are entitled to access their land, and riding a horse would not be a problem. They actually own most of the land worth riding on at the battlefield anyway....Weir Point, Cedar Coulee, Nye-Cartwright Ridge, Luce Ridge, etc.
