An other script: www.neotekhomes.com/adam "Honor and Infamy": A highly decorated Civil War general must try to salvage a his command against the entire Sioux nation in spite of the insubordination of his two wing commanders. Not just any general. General George Armstrong Custer. Not just any battle. The Battle of Little Big Horn.
It would forever change the future of America. What brought glory to one would disgrace the other. In death a great many brave souls bore honor to their end. In life some survived the day in shameful tribute to those betrayed on the field of battle. For General George Armstrong Custer, his valor and actions were to forever become the center of debate between those who loathed and loved him. Centuries of conflict between the white and red man struck its crescendo upon the banks of the Little Bighorn. The overwhelming defeat of the Seventh Cavalry and the famous "Boy General" rose above history, beyond legend and into mythical proportions.Just excellent. Watch the author commenting his work and see the dream team he would choose for a movie. Accurate and EXCELLENT.

Jack Sturgis: Elijah Wood Tom Custer: Daniel Craig Benny Hodgeson: Johnny Depp Girard: Daniel Day-Lewis (with a beard) Lt. McIntosh: Benjamin Bratt Benteen: Brian Dennehy or James Gandolfini (with hair whitened) Reno: Michael Medeiros (played a perfect Reno in SOTMS) Captain Yates: Stephen Lang (played Stonewall Jackson) Sgt. Bustard or Butler: Kevin Conway (played the sgt in Gettysburg) Lt. Fresh Smith: George Clooney Lt Harrington: Leonardo DiCaprio Martini: Michael Imperioli (from The Sopranos) Lt. Wallace: Nicholas Cage Lt. Calhoun: Keifer Sutherland 1st Sgt. Varden: Mel Gibson Isaiah Dorman: Dennis Haysbert (from '24') Captain French: Gary Busey Lt. Hare: Tobey Maguire Lt. Colin Farrell for Myles Keogh - he's ALMOST as handsome and dashing and has the perfect Irish accent.

Hah! I thought your moniker had to mask a fellow Keogh fan ...!
Agree, definitely not Russell Crowe. At any price. What would you think of Cillian Murphy -- for the younger Keogh at least? And there's a screenwriter who's suggested Val Kilmer for the 1876 Keogh. Wrong colouring (eyes, anyway), but it could work; his Doc Holliday performance shows he could do it. A few years ago I'd have said Pierce Brosnan -- right height, right colouring, right sense of humour, and can ride -- but sadly I fear that too much time may have gone by, even allowing for 19th-century ageing.
Still, Keogh was claiming "grey hairs" years before the battle. And Custer was going bald by 1876. It could be terrific to see a Wild Bunch version of the battle, where they're all conscious of having hit middle age. "This is our last go-around, Dutch" etc. ... Especially potent since Crazy Horse was the same age, too. A sense on both sides of the Last Great Battle they'd have the chance to fight in ...?

Yes, Nelly may have snatched my Keogh's bones, but I have his soul!
A "Wild Bunch" version would be awesome. There are so many choices for storylines to bring attention to the personalities out there. I see a lot of arguing and "idea" bashing on these boards, and the one thing most can agree on is that we will NEVER know the full true story. I've tended to research the individuals rather than the event itself. Keogh strikes me as one of the most interesting men involved and I suspect that is because he is so darned cute and adorable that I took the time to dig a bit into his background. Shallowness, alive and well in 2007. I'm not sure about Cillian, must look him up. I must live in a vacuum, the name sounds familiar yet I can't place him. At this moment, my big quandry is deciding which reenactment at LBH to attend. I've heard some interesting things about each one, the Chamber of Commerce vs Real Bird. I've been to the battle sites many times, but never experienced the reenactment. Any suggestions?

(What do you think I'm doing here? ) But I'm sorry, ladies, I have a problem with Colin Farrell--did you see him in The New World? All he did was wander through the wilderness looking confused. I wouldn't have followed that guy to the grocery store, much less Virginia, and I just can't see him doing justice to Keogh. As for which reenactment to attend, they both have their problems. (See the thread on Reenactments--it's discussed in detail.) If it's your first time, I would suggest both of them, so you can draw your own conclusions and see first-hand what everybody is talking about. But be prepared for some very weird "history" from the Remarkable Realbirds. Abby, I will be stationed on the Keogh Trail from 10 am to noon Sunday and Monday. Come on down and say hi if you get the chance, if we don't run into each other before then. Melani is my real name, so it makes it easier to find me.

Thanks for the response, Melani. We'll look for you there, I'm dragging my adult daughter with me. She's a History major and thoughly enmeshed in the Civil War era but not so interested in the IW's- she will come kicking and screaming. You two may have things to discuss, she's a Humboldt victim.. I mean graduate. She also finds my obsession with Myles a bit scary . We'd really love to take our horses over there and ride the trails. Is that allowed if you aren't part of the reenactment? I asked the Park "guy" at the entrance the last time I was there, but he didn't seem to know and pretty much just grunted at us.. Marissa

MY adult daughter is also with me, and she will be starting at Humboldt in September, having just graduated from CR! We certainly must meet up! Don't know about horses, but you should ask the folks at the Visitor Center, and keep asking until you find somebody that knows.

One of the reenactors could probably answer you for sure, but I know that Steve Alexander asked for and received permission from the Superintendent for their ride up to Last Stand Hill two years ago. I rather doubt the NPS allows horses for casual riding. They don't like people walking on most places!

Melani- we'll definitely see you out there.. and Dianne, thanks for the input. Yes, I can understand the NPS not wanting to have random fools (such as myself for even inquiring) disturbing the ground out there!
