Do they give you pointy things to write your notes, Mike, or are you still limited to charred tree stumps?

Well, I believe Depp claims to be part Indian, so there's Crazy Horse, for you. He's too old, but doesn't look it. Grant seems to have put on weight, last time I saw him in anything. How about Wil Smith whiting up for Reno?

Got it! Apocalypse Then meets Centennial Day meets Close Encounters of the Seventh Kind. An alien space-ship swoops the entire five companies back to home planet, leaving their empty pods behind. (Ooops, forgot: meets Invasion of the Mutilated-Corpse-Snatchers.) Mr. Kurtz is chief green alien. The cavalry guys battle to overcome his evil forces. Commandeering the ship, they return to earth to find two centuries have passed and an entire mythology has grown up around them. Rather than disillusion their worshippers, they take off again, sadder but wiser, to spend eternity cruising space like the Flying Dutchman, righting wrongs, and morphing into a Star Trek-type franchise ...
Well, it could play!

Grant could do Sitting Bull, maybe?

Chiklis played Curley in a TV movie about the THREE STOOGES. He also played the COMMISH in the TV series of the same name. I don't think he would work for Benteen.
Wes Studi has played numerous roles including contemporary roles. He starred with Adam Beech in some PBS shows about modern-day Indian police hunting down murderers that were quite good.
Studi played GERONIMO on a TNT(?) movie that was very good and accurate. He always looks fierce in whatever part he plays and would be a good choice for any of the famous warriors during the Plains period.
Whatever happen to Will Sampson who was pretty hot for a while playing various American Indian roles? I think he was in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO NEST in addition to many others. He would be another good choice for a warrior you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley.

When do we cut to the chase and figure out Libby? For 1876, I'm thinking Winona Ryder. Means nailing down all the valuables on the set, but there's grit beneath the waif. Big plus; she's played an android so may fit with Elisabeth's concept.

I believe Sampson's dead. Did you see him as Crazy Horse in the White Buffalo. He was all wrong, but it was a strange movie...

According to the web, Will Sampson passed in 1987. I recently recorded Cuckoo's Nest. In addition to Sampson, it has a young Danny DeVito, who could be a cameo U S Grant for our movie.

Yes, I did see THE WHITE BUFFALO, but it's been years since. I believe Charles Bronson was in it, as who? It was an odd movie, can't remember the particulars right now, but seemed other worldly.
When SOMS was released most of the Indians were unknowns, but many of them certainly were up to their parts. Maybe it would be better to have "lesser known" actors portray famous Indians. After all, many of the real Indians are completely unknown to many non-buffs . . . so it may work.

Crzhrs,
As noted earlier, I'm a fan of Wes Studi, his Magua did everything for Last of the Mohicans. He is not always fierce though. Catch his Detective Casals in Heat. Here he is almost bookish, but still a pleasure to watch. I think he could cover any male role from LBH.
Heat also contains Val Kilmer, my vote for Custer. In fact, you could transplant the entire cast of Heat into LBH and pretty much be done.
Yours,
Mike Powell

Heat was a powerful movie . . . violent, excellent acting, great sound effects and of course De Niro & Pachino!
What more could one want?
And Kilmer is an excellent actor . . . Jim Morrison, Doc Holiday, and numerous others . . . highly underated!

jc--
That's the truest thing ever posted on these boards! Holy smoke, it's eerie!
How about this one. I was watching bits & pieces of Dances With Wolves last night (during the ads in a Georgetown basketball game!). How about-- for Crazy Horse-- that young Indian boy, the one who tries to steal Dunbar's horse, the same one who jammed the hatchet in the sergeant-major's back toward the end of the movie. I have no clue what his name is, but he should be in his 20's now.
Best wishes, Fred.

Heavens, yes, you're right, he did look as if he'd grow up to be very good indeed. (I can't even remember the character's name, so can't look him up.)
Molly Parker would be great.
