Yes. They were there when Custer only had a wooden cross (see way above /\) circa 1895.

Fun stuff!
Anyway if you refer to my post of July 23rd and 1:52 pm you will see two pictures of the same area where (I believe) Lame White Man lead his charge starting in the "Forgotten Ravine". The first photo was taken later than the 2nd photo (which was taken at an earlier date and it appears to be different LSH monuments). If you look carefully at those similar photos you will notice soldier markers that are "down" in one photo and then put "upright" in the other (later) photo.
Page 10 of this thread also has more information on this subject in my posts.
Put those views together with my outline of the ravine (of Oct 7 at 7:52am) and it will be obvious of where the picture was taken, which ravine it is, and that markers that were once in the ravine are now "on top" of the filled in ravine. You can see it clearer if you Zoom in on a current Google earth view of the area I am referring to.

Thanks for your opinion my friend. But you are too "low" towards the deep ravine. My area is closer to the cemetery ridge ravine (as shown on page 10) and in the below picture. Also, I don’t think I mentioned this before. But I am so certain of my discovery, thoughts, and ideas about the “Forgotten Ravine” that I had about the first month of my original posts (and only my posts!) on this thread copyrighted! Those were the posts where I stated my thoughts, discovery, and original ideas about the Forgotten Ravine. They are now on file with the Copyright Office. Effective Date of Registration: August 05, 2023, Registration Decision Date: August 25, 2023. That was a fun thing to do! Never did something like that before. I am glad this forum discussion led me to copyright my stuff! Once in a lifetime thing for me, and I am in my “golden years”. Ha, ha, ha, etc! Also, like I have previously stated in another post, everything I could say about the Forgotten Ravine I have already stated (with statements, pictures, and stated references-when I came across them!). I cannot go through 32 pages of a thread to "dig them up"! I thank members of this forum for their valuable assistance on my discovery. But there are other members (as on other forums I belong to) that will always be "flat earthers"! Hey, that is just the way it is!! The adventure continues! Attachments:

You should repost the pics you refer to. I tried to refer to them in my previous post. Must have gotten the wrong pictures because the ones I looked at based on your dates July 23rd were right at the branch…per the markers. I see by your last your notion is up to the right and cuts across the trail. If only you can find it definitively in one of the pictures. Keep at it!

Curious - what does copywriting this notion do for you?

johnson1941.
O.K. my friend. I will "bite" (it is more fun that way!). No way you can compare the top picture you showed with the second picture. As you have shown, to take a picture with the same orientation as the first picture the deep ravine would appear much more "diagonal" across the bottom of the photo (as it is in your 2nd picture). And the LSH monument would probably not even be visible!
Oh well, just my opinion! I am not an expert (or whatever!) on photo analysis!
My last post for awhile, unless anything relevant or new is brought up!

LOL! Naa - even I'm not that nuts! 1st its a goofy name! Being named after Weir, who was on it - makes much more sense! "Custer Lookout" works too.
2nd - this highest hill AKA Weir's Hill is nothing new. Lots of people mention THE highest point - and locate it for us - plenty; and they knew about it as early as 1879! (1876 actually - when they were there, and for seasons after).
Others just don't/never got it. Who knows why? Pretty simple stuff, really.
I am happy with just being right and figuring it out!

Hey my friends!
Sometimes we forget that this is a "Worldwide" forum! Maybe some of these "posts" would be more appropriate in a "personal message" to the individual?
Even I have to sometimes remember to "kick back, relax, and smell the coffee" and let somethings just "slide by"!
Anyway, just my opinion!
Anyone come up with any more old pictures (pre 1935) of the cemetery ravine - deep ravine area of the battlefield? I have been searching but can't find any.
Thanks!

Hello johnson1941 my friend.
Yes, I believe copyrighting is like a patent. It makes my ideas about the "Forgotten Ravine" a legal protection for an original work of authorship that I produced (or something like that).
Not that this is ever going to be written up in a book or something! But I just thought it was a neat thing to do!
Now, if only the NPS would take a core sample of the area! That would either continue or end my discussion and thoughts about the ravine!

Hey my two friends! O.K. enough "locking horns" with one another! Maybe just exchange phone numbers with each other and continue your discussion (what an "original" thought!). Anyway, I have included a picture below. What I believe to be the Forgotten Ravine is marked in blue, the monument is circled in red, and the row of soldier markers is marked in yellow. I have shown a similar picture before on a previous post. Although I just noticed something that definetly "solidifies" (for me) the location of where the photo was taken. Opinions and Google earth views of where members think the picture was taken would be appreciated. Thanks! Attachments:

O.K., let's forget the "hill" thing and move on! So, my friend johnson1941. Thanks for your google earth view of where you think the picture shown in my previous post was taken. But in your picture (the first one shown) you can't even see the monument. What is a "tell" for me in my photograph is the angle of the soldier markers below the monument. They are pretty much pointing "downhill", and the monument can be clearly seen. My thoughts are that the other soldier markers shown are now part of the deep ravine trail and that trail goes directly over the filled in Forgotten Ravine. The two markers shown "in" the ravine feature (in my photograph) are the two markers that are now "on top" of that filled in ravine (as can be seen with a "zoom" of that area on Google earth). Also, the distance comes into play. Google earth puts the "Forgotten Ravine" at about 1050 feet from the bottom soldier markera at LSH (in the bunch of markers below the monument that make up the Last Stand). It measures about 1868 feet to the deep ravine in your picture, and if a picture could be taken of LSH at that distance from that location (if you can even see the monument and or markers from there!) the bunch of markers below the monument would appear at a different angle and much smaller than in the picture I included. Unfortunately, I am not computer literate! I have inlcuded a photo of where I think the picture was taken (red line) at the Forgotten Ravine. Where your picture was taken at (deep ravine) is marked with a yellow line. Also, the other soldier markers that are in my picture and are in and around the Forgotten Ravine can also be seen (accounting for maybe a slight replacement over the years) on a current Google earth view of that same area. This is fun, and thanks for your valued opinions! Attachments:

Thanks johnson1941 for the pictures. But I am not clear on what you are trying to show me? I have included four pictures. The first picture was a picture I took in July when I was at the Little Bighorn with my maps and thoughts about the Forgotten Ravine and where it was located. By using the plsacement of soldier markers seen on a Goggle earth view I found that the ravine was at a definite "dip" in the deep ravine trail. I figured that "dip" must be the filled in area of where the ravine once was. The second picture is the one you included of apporximately the same area (the third picture is a view of that area). Your picture shows the relationship of the area to the monument on LSH and is a good comparison for the last picture (the fourth picture shown) attached here. And by using a oomparison of the slight hills to the left of the monument in both of those pictures (taking into consideration the different views) it even more accurately shows the realationshiip between those two different pictures. I have marked in blue where I think the ravine was located in all the pictures. Thanks!
