The Big Jaunt is now confirmed for the period 7 July to 20 July 2010, and there are four confirmed trekkers, meaning that there is room for one more, but only if you are either male or female, so that we have a balanced mix.
We will be going to LBH battlefields, including Reno's valley position; the Crows Nest; the Morass; the Lone Tipi site: Rosebud battlefield; Fetterman Fight site; Fort Phil Kearny; Fort CF Smith; Wagon Box Fight site; Canyon Creek site; Sibley Scout area; Medicine Wheel; Big Hole Fight site; Hatfield Fight site; Buffalo Bill Museum; Jim Gatchell Museum; Rosebud cavalry camp sites; Rosebud NDN camp sites; Sundance site; Deer Medicine Rocks;Davis Creek camp sites and halting places [join in the hunt]; the Divide; the Division into Battelions; Benteen;s Route; Fords A B C and D; NDN camp sites in the valley; SSR SSL and XYZ; top of The Chalk Bluffs [maybe], Reno [Ash] Creek locations - crossings and etc; and the local Dairy Queen.
I will be on the trek, which is a collaborative endeavor, but not "leading" it. The other three trekkers are members of this and the Association boards. If you are interested in becoming number five, you should consider that it will cost you as much as 1840 dollars [but probably less], all in - tour, lodgings, food, entertainment, admissions, gas money and etc etc etc and blah blah blah. If you can provide a large vehicle capable of holding six adults comfortably, your cost would be more like 1000 dollars. The vehicle need not be four-wheel drive, but that would be a plus.
On the other hand, you could go by yourself, drive around with a map in your hand, find that you can't get to many of the places mentioned, and at the end of two weeks discover that you have spent the same amount, or more, and seen maybe half of what we propose to do - and will have missed out on great discussions and my fine cooking.
Email or PM me for details, or with questions.
