Hockey? . . . after The Big Bad Bruins of the late 60s-early 70s and Bobby Orr, Phil Espositio, Derek Sanderson, Johnny Bycik, Gerry Cheevers, Ken Hodge, Wayne Cashman, Johnny McKenzie, et al., . . . there is no hockey!

Crzhrs--
I don't get into hockey at all, though I did when I was a kid in Chicago. There was a great rivalry between the Blackhawks and the Bruins back in the late 60s.
How about music ...? Nobody can go wrong with that!

How about music ...? Nobody can go wrong with that! Okay, this is where we separate the men from the boys. Outside of Custer [Custer being representative of my interest in the nineteenth century American west], Randy Rhoads changed my life. I don't listen to music like I used to - I hate nu-metal - but heavy metal remains a big part of my life. If it has heavy, melodic guitar, I love it. Whether it be instrumental (Satriani, Jason Becker, Vinnie Moore, Malmsteen, Michael Schenker, to name a few) to bands such as Dokken [mostly the Lynch years, but Reb was cool, too], older Van Halen, early Queensryche, Shotgun Messiah, Lillian Axe and even some new bands, Symphony X popping into mind. My life is the 4 H's. Home (family), history, heavy metal and hockey. However, now I only like hockey as a viewer, as opposed to being a diehard fan of any particular team. After about 20 years of heartache, I gave up on fan fanaticism. It's just too time consuming and emotionally draining. I like Buffalo this playoff and you've got to admire Edmonton. And Fred...Thanks for the compliment.

Every since hockey players started wearing helmets . . . the fun has gone out of the game.

historynut1876-- First of all, I agree w/ you about the Hardorff business, so your loss to this Website is extremely unfortunate. You had/ have very good views & your opinions are important, certainly to me. I am also not a fan of Hardorff's rather opinionated editing. He's provided invaluable information, packed into each book. But he goes too far in correcting the accounts. In the books I've read, he doesn't (as far as I know) edit them, just says "nope, this is wrong" when an account is presented that doesn't jive with his theory. And I don't think source books are the place for that. Michno, Fox et al, they present their own theories. That's the basis of their books. They use accounts to support them. But when your books is all about presenting just the accounts, you should leave your opinions at the door. Let the reader, who buys the book for its source material, form the opinions.

As for hockey, I'm a casual fan. This year, because OLN now has the games, I have yet to watch a single one. When the playoffs started, I have yet to check the on-screen guide and see Buffalo v. anybody. Every playoff game they've aired has been with other teams. But I check for Buffalo scores every night.

And historynut1876... it was not so much a compliment as it is fact. I have written down the "monikers" of several people whose opinions I greatly respect and yours is right there among them. You know your stuff & your posts were always interesting, informative, & just really very, very good. Who was it, Michael Jordan, or some such wag once said, If you can do it, it ain't braggin'. Well, my friend, you can do it. Best wishes, Fred.

Give me Buddy Guy anytime . . . the best guitar player in the world (still at 60!) . . . and you can hear every note . . . the pickers are the best guitar players.
Don't forget Edy "The Chief" Clearwater . . . Slim Harpo . . . Albert Collins . . . Hound Dog Taylor . . . Elmore James . . . Chuck Berry . . . I could go on and on . . .
Oh yeah . . . then there was Jimi Hendrix!

This is terrific - an inspired idea by Bubba put into practise by Diane! An utterly off-topic section in which we can expand upon who and what we are about beyond our shared interest in Custer/LBH and associated topics. I think what is already an established team will now really get to know each other to such an extent that an A-Team will now emerge. So here's my first utterly off-topic test of the general knowledge pool - how do I get rid of dried superglue off an Italian virgin wool suit? Ciao, GAC

GAC--
Convert to Islam. That way you can have all the virgins you want & not have to worry about a suit.
Best wishes, Fred.

Awright! Here's one that oughta blow your minds & have me running for dear life from your guffaws & recriminations.
The other day, it was dreary down here in La-la-land. No sun, no rain; just clouds. So I watched a couple of my favorite movies, one of which had my all-time favorite male & all-time favorite female stars.
The first movie was "Master & Commander/ The Far Side of the World," w/ Russell Crowe & Paul Bettany [spelling?].
The second-- the one w/ my favorite stars-- was "Charade." 1963. Cary Grant & the impeccably gorgeous Audrey Hepburn. (Also w/, James Coburn, Walter Matthau, & George Kennedy.)
Both, great music, great fun. And last night? "Kelly's Heroes." More great music & great fun.
Tonight? I don't know... maybe "The Great Escape." Hm-m-m... .
Best wishes, The Old Man in the Everglades.

how do I get rid of dried superglue off an Italian virgin wool suit? ;D I don't know why, but that struck me as very funny! GAC, I'm afraid your only recourse is to find an excellent tailor who can weave a small bit of fabric from a hem into the fabric around the superglued fabric, thereby replacing the bad spot with new fabric. Of course, you could always embroider a daisy or something to cover it up! ;D To be very fair to someone -- my memory is failing me again -- I think someone (Billy?) proposed a talk-about-anything board a while back which I poo-pooed. Now I am wearing the poo-poo because it is a good idea. Sorry, folks -- I am really punchy today, and I haven't even been drinking with Fred!

Ahem...I was going to refrain from pointing that out, especially since Bubba was getting the credit, but, since you so kindly opened the door, I can't help myself.... Nyah, nyah, nyah! But, to give you a fragment of a life-rope, considering the cast of characters we had at the time, perhaps discretion was the better part of valor. Anyhow, it takes a great person to reconsider their opinions and realize that they were wrong, wrong, wrong. Did I mention "wrong"? Billy P.S. *snicker*
