Gino's or Pat's? ? The world wonders. There is nothing that makes me believe that any notification, by any means of Crook's setback would have changed anything we know of in the Wide Wonderful World of George Custer one iota. The thrill of victory would still give way to the agony of defeat. Will will be feeling his Wheaties for the next two weeks.

Montrose,
Let's rewind and start with one quote from John Bourke's book. Cross-department contact, without routing via division, would be somewhat implicit and in addition to Sheridan's communications by messenger...?

Montrose, your Pats, came through, big.
This thread has turned regarding messengers and changes that Custer might make due to messengers. Shaw's post. It was a fair question, I think we all are aware of logistics and chain of command, but this certainly is not the first if come/may come question we have seen.

Would the US Army high command over there in Philadelphia, expect each column to be able take on the task of defeating the Indians and forcing them back to the reservation? In other words was each column in Sheridan’s eyes, big enough on its own to complete the job without any assistance from the other two.

Montrose, your Pats, came through, big. Actually, I wasn't in the least bit surprised about that outcome. I am, however, completely bummed out over the Green Bay Chokers. What an utterly disgraceful display!! Three minutes to play, up by a dozen, and those disgraces-for-football-players blow the game. I dislike Seattle intensely because of their cheating, piece of manure coach. I was pulling for New England ever since I knew the Giants wouldn't make it-- pre-season?-- and now I am yanking out the Seahawks voodoo dolls and a whole array of pins. Besides, New England has the real 12th-man: Bill Belichick. Go Pats!!!Best wishes, Fred.

Ian, yes that was the assumption Phil was operating under. I think he would have been thrilled if the NA's would have been caught between the commands (Terry and Crook), I am certain he thought either would do the job.

Well, if you want a BBC series DVD, I vote for Dad's Army.

What a cast of great comics, that kind of humour has gone now, when you watched Dads Army you never heard one swear word, and no violence, there was no need as this bunch of old hands just did what come naturally, act.

Tom, take for instance Col. Gibbons Montana Column, it had six Companies of Infantry (7th Infantry) and four Companies of Cavalry (2nd Cavalry) plus a Gatling Gun Detachment, all in all around 370-80 men, now to me the capabilities of such a small force would be limited.

Well, if you want a BBC series DVD, I vote for Dad's Army. Funny, but I never heard of that one. For sheer slapstick comedy, I don't think it is possible to beat Benny Hill. I cannot tell you the hours my son and I spent laughing over that one!!! Best wishes, Fred.

My family loved Benny Hill as well but the comedian we still talk about even today is Marty Feldman. We first saw him on a Dean Martin summer variety show. He was brilliant. Beth

Marty Feldman was my favorite part of "Young Frankenstein". I still quote some of his best lines when joking around with people who have seen the movie (so they can relate to whatever comment I was lampooning).

Not to mention The E Network. I hate when you have the same thing on both networks!

I watch reruns of Dad` Army and still enjoy the episodes. Many of the cast were indeed ex soldiers. my absolute favourite comedy sketch is m.youtube.com/watch?v=R7GeKLE0x3s. Towards the end there's a line which reminds me of an astute comment someone made on this board regarding Custer at LBH.
