DucemusThe deployment of defending cavalry on Reno Hill during the Battle of the Little Bighorn is well researched and documented and trengths and weaknesses of the positions and troops are fully understood. 1.bp.blogspot.com/-FkuSg4x7iW4/UCFnkbYbpfI/AAAAAAAAEAI/8opt6bzIl0M/s1600/Reno's+Defense+on+the+Bluff.jpg You are 'Many Scalps'. A mean 28 year old hostile veteran of the Plains and leader of a band of some 80 or so Bad Hearts who are the white mans' nightmare. Fighting of the 25th has closed and you are gathered with other lieutenants at Council, where Sittting Bull makes it clear that Little Custer, Reno on the hill, must die tomorrow, the 7th Cavalry are to be rubbed out, You put your plan to Crazy Horse and it is accepted, What is your plan to wipe out Reno and minimise the loss of your own men? Feel free. and have a go, Post your theory, Here is the 'big picture' - upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d9/Www-cgsc.army.mil_MAP21_Defense_of_Reno-Benteen_Hill.GIFand the little one -

Indians prepared and fought at their own discretion and decided their placement in battle and how long they participated. Unless you were at this hypothetical meeting and participated in planning the next day's strategy, we have no eye witness evidence of the this type of planning. You are a visionary type of person no doubt and I look forward to your response and presentation of supporting testimony. Regards Dave

Dave , there in fact was a meeting, shortly before the scalp dance, and just after the squaws had their wailing/morning session. Sitting bull explained, that "there is no need to whack the remaining white eyes, just keep them pinned down, pick off as many as you can, shoot horses, while we pack the village. Whatever you do don't waste the lives of our young men."
I think you are rude to doubt/suppose that HR could not have gotten the transcript of that meeting, I understand deep throat was in attendance. G. Gordon worked security.
Regards, tom

Funny how that 'blanket burned' defense only surfaced at the RCOI

I have found a new career, being the straight man. Here I am in the middle of a serious discussion with the renowned scholar HR, and you two characters are trying to interrupt. Think of the out pouring of knowledge we will gain about the Little Big Horn from HR's report of the Strategic Planning Council's decision making process.
As the great man Michaleen Oge Flynn said, it's Homeric!

Sorry. I will go stand in the corner while you continue on your journey of knowledge from HR.
Personally his map reminded me of a battle plan for a recess battle of pig pile.

It is a little known fact (very little known) that SB's original five paragraph field order for operations on the 26th of June resides in the Hudson High museum, along with his diploma from said institution.

DucemusSitting Bull was always underestimated. He broadly repeated strategy of Red Clouds war which brought about a favourable political solution which lasted all of 30 seconds. He learnt, as an up an coming respected figure, what worked in 1866 with the Fetterman Incident - at which Wolf Tooth fought. Tribal practice did involve discipline and control by example through beatings, confiscation and banishments in worst cases such as murder. Sioux and Cheyenne were not going to line up shoulder to shoulder marching into the teeth of a disciplined skirmish or battle-line. Reno forgot that, and it is wide of the mark to give that he was inexperienced in fighting on the Plains. As his records are examined, I wll show this. He had, I know already, previously fought with Miles. I don't like the guy, get over it. The degree of command and control was limited but did exist as the Peter Powell (Stone Forehead) and John Stands in Timber histories attest. It was a limited ability - go there and fight. You go there. You follow me. All wait and fire together. All wait. All gtf out of here. Good luck and Hoka hay! So................. With those constraints and abilities, plan to overcome the Reno Hill defences.

So I've heard. I thought think he went to Annapolis and then commanded a fleet of praire schooners pre Civil War. Beth
