QC You are exactly right on it being the Tusk. I am fascinated the width of your collection. I have been on the Razorback, over in Littlerock, and on the Drum many times. I remember being on the Redfish, we lived in San Diego for 8 plus years 1952 to 1960, and one time we submerged in the Bay. Had a certificate at one time. Wish you could show photos of your work. Regards Dave I've asked him too

It may surprise all and sundry that I do not own a digital camera, smart phone, cell phone, or Little Orphan Annie decoder ring. My buddy Tom however is a great photographer, and I will endeavor to have him take some pictures of my boats at the 14-15 March Arts and Crafts for Geezers event which is the only show I do. I will then have my personal technical advisor, the candidate, show me how to post them here. Not wishing to clutter the board with my magnificent artistry I will do a multi addressee PM. They wont all be in the show, only 2014-15 work. Most of the stuff this year will be Russian Boats, but Waller (the Collins Class Beth) Texas, City of Corpus Christie, and a couple of RN boats.
Drum was a kick ass boat. I am glad she was saved, but the last pictures I saw of her down in Mobile, betrayed a pretty sad condition. She was one of the very few memorial subs that was restored on the Navy's dime to her exact 1944 configuration. She was an all black boat when she was in DC. She was also the first Gato off the ways and into commission.

Fantastic and thank you for the effort for us fans. As to the condition of the Drum, it has not fared well since Katrinia. The work on her is non stopping and very good but funding is the issue. 70 year old steel suffers in the salt water environment. What craft show are you speaking of? Regards Dave

No smart phone, a pay as you go flip cell phone and I can't see in digital cameras to focus them. Yesterday Steve asked me to take a picture of Sam's schedule and email it to them since they forgot it. After an hour of trying to find the camera on my tablet, focus it, take the picture and email it. I realized it probably was unreadable so I just the Friday events they would need and told them I would be willing to bet they would get an extra copy at the college. They did. Beth

Dave: It is called an Arts Festival, and has been held for the last 20 years at my church, Chapel of Our Saviour (Episcopal) in the Broadmoor area of Colorado Springs. It starts off with a concert which Tom's wife Judy runs. All classical, that runs for a couple of hours. We are quite fortunate to have as church members several members of the Colorado Spring Philharmonic, CS Symphony, and CS Youth Symphony.
That is followed by a reception for all those attending the concert and the folks who have entries into the visual arts portion. It really is an across the board of nearly all the visual arts from painting, photography, pottery making, model railroading, and then there is my stuff in the back corner. My friend Des who is in his mid 80's does wooden sailing ships, usually only one per year. He makes my stuff look like something from the city dump.
The next day it is open to the public from 9:00 AM until about 3:00.
We are quite fortunate to have 18 acres of land, as our church was once the old Allen estate, a family who used this property as their "cabin" when they came out yearly from Philly to tend to the "ranch" which at one time took up most of the land between CS and Denver. Our church was once the stable for their Polo ponies. We are in the midst of a restoration program currently, as the buildings are all over a hundred years old. When complete we will have an area set aside for an outdoor concert venue. If you have a spare million or two, call the Madam, she would love to pick your pocket.
It's a lot of fun, and it takes me nearly all year to prepare, as I like to show new stuff, not same old, same old from years past.
Beth, I am not one to have the need to instantly communicate with anyone. I figure if they want to talk to me bad enough they will call back. If not I probably did not want to talk to them anyway.

The only reason we have the cell phones is because the girls take them on days they are staying late at school or have an activity and need to call for a ride. I'm not big on phone usage, never have been. The Arts Festival sounds pretty neat actually.

QC Sounds like an old time religion gathering for the art's fair. Not being a member of any organized religion, I am a Southern Baptist, we have what are called church socials with pot luck lunches and musical entertainment. I understand you and Beth's lack of social media means as I have a flip phone only to be answered when my wife calls with opportunities to serve her. I then answer quickly and with the right respect in my tone of voice. I do these things because I want to not that I am required. Regards Dave

I don't know who first used that line and I make no claims of ownership. But it fits my denomination to a t. I love my Church but we march to our own beat. I grew up as a Lutheran but joined my wife's church and I must say it feels very comfortable. I was an administrator and as such have little literary skills. I was the consummate "Memo" writer. Regards Dave

Chris I appreciated your remark. I expect to learn and have never disappointed. I have been married too long to not be able to laugh at myself and say "I don't know". I am so pleased to be a member of this board. I love history, the War, WW I, WW II the American west and airplanes, especially WW II and naval vessels of all years. I find the folks here supportive, patient, tolerant and informative. Where else could I go and find such vast knowledge and ideas about the past. Regards Dave
