Yellow Rose, there are always people on every forum who just want to cause trouble and argue. I admit I have limited experience; I am only involved with one other forum, where the topic is folk music. A couple of weeks ago, I saw a thread on the "B.S." section of that forum with the interesting title of "Custer and Errol Flynn's Willie." It started out as a silly and salacious question about Errol Flynn's trousers in "They Died With Their Boots On," but surprisingly, it quickly became a serious thread about LBH, and finished up with Lakota methods of food preservation. But then the forum's resident jerk took over, slandering and arguing with everybody, and that's when I dropped out. And that is what I usually do when jerks take over--ignore them and go away. Life is way too short. Though I must say I do enjoy a good verbal dust-up if everybody stays polite. I do have a technical question: it says at the top of the main page that guests can browse, but not post, yet I see posts labeled "guest." How does that work?

Melani,
Prior to December, anyone could post messages and replies. They did not have to register with this forum. I kept it open to the world for over 15 months in the hope and belief (mostly hope) that people -- especially those new to LBH -- would be a bit less relunctant to post if they could remain anonymous. There are many posts by guests prior to December.
Since December, two registered members, custerstillstands and q, have deleted their accounts, so their posts now show them as guests rather than members.
I hope this clears up any confusion.

Our friend "q" was the anonymous poster One Tin Soldier, who was pretty much the inspiration for the elimination of anonymous posting.
I'm all for free speech, but if you're going to be an arrogant, belittling turd on a message board, you should at least have the balls to spend 2 minutes creating a profile.

Now, I forgot: how many posters were on simultaneously? At the bottom of the Home page there's an "Info Center" that has statistics. It says "Most users on line was 35, May 4, 2006, 8:06pm". So it seems that is the latest record!!! Busy place. Ruth

We have broken our attendance record on the boards twice this week! What's going on?
Delighted but Curious

Sheesh, a 101 people on this board shortly after midnight Saturday morning?
That's a lot of visitors!

Billy, I happened to be online at the time (it was early morning here) and it was weird to watch: the total semed to go up incrementally by 20s and 30s at a time. While I wouldn't for a moment doubt this board's popularity, it did look as if something very, very odd was going on ...

I know a lot of re-enactors have been visiting the boards of late-though not necessarily registering--thanks to Darkcloud and the Professor's discussion--apparently we're the talk of the Custer Clan. Also, I'm guessing watching CSS spontaneously self-destruct makes for good viewing, if that's what you're into ...

I wouldn't mind a slight flutter on CSS being inspired by dc's thread about statistics and doing something to affect the numbers.

Gordie, I thought that you were being overly paranoid (those men in the white coats are your friends!) but seeing yesterday's record of 183 simultaneous users makes me think again.
I hate work, especially when I have three companies coordinated to meet at midnight to trouble-shoot a problem and then when it comes time to test, the expletive-deleted conference bridge is down for maintenance or something. So now I am all rev'd up with no place to go having drank half a pot of coffee and had a couple of hours sleep. Ah well, let me look at some microfilm. That should either put me back to sleep or in a worse mood (which is why I will not read any of DC's or Conz's posts right now.)
Damned, I wish I had a dog so that I could kick it!
