I didn't know Trish, but it's always shocking and sad to hear about the premature leaving of a well-loved and respected member of a community. My sympathies to her family and friends.

I never met Tricia eye-to-eye, but enjoyed discussing, sparing and the teasing of each other with her at all times. Besides these boards, a couple of e-mails and a small handful of PMs are all I had of her.
I have reached a point in life from which there are no more tears to shed. Tears are unnecessary anyway. Life landed a couple of pretty hard body blows on Tricia in the last few years, but she struck me as always quickly hoping up and jumping back into the fight. Always holding her ground and reaching forward. I called her ‘firecracker’ for that and came to love her, in a way. How could I not?
It goes without saying that she was just way too young, but I do so hope that there exists a happier place for her to be in now. It is the rest of us here, I'm thinking, that are left measurably lessened by her dreams left undreamed and her promise left unrealized.

Sorry to hear this. I knew her not, but it's always a shock when someone much younger passes on. It might not be inappropriate to have a small memorial thread with a list of the people who participated and passed on in media res, and are missed. Harris, Solla, McLean are the ones I recall off the top of my head. Pohanka if he ever participated, I don't know his User ID. Just a list of their names and passing date, because their stuff is still up, more or less forever. Just for board participants, a plaque if you will. I thought this awkwardly appropriate, because it might have appealed to her. www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3YVil3Ajjs

That's a nice idea, DC. I'll do it tonight. Perry Baker also comes to mind. (To the best of my knowledge, the real Pohanka didn't post.) If anyone can think of others, please let me know. I've exchanged emails with Bob Reece, president of the Friends of the Little Bighorn Battlefield. When Trish's husband died, she requested donations be sent to Friends. I don't know if the family has addressed memorials, but Chuck and I will make a donation tonight to Friends on behalf of ourselves and the members of this board. If anyone else wants to contribute in Trish's name, go to the Friends site ( www.friendslittlebighorn.com) and click "Point Click Give" on the top menu. I've given Bob the address for Trish's parents, and he will send them an acknowledgement of our gift. Diane

That memorial thread is indeed a good idea. Let's make sure that it does not become a repository for other than intended [perhaps the delineation of some rules might be in order].

Good point. Also, perhaps it should just be a list with dates and only Merkel can post. Otherwise, you run the risk of it being competitive with who gets the most posts. Or the quality of the people who post might be remarked upon as proof of character, as happened with Custer and Benteen of late.
Change Introductions to "Introductions......"
followed by:
"....and Farewells" in the Take a Break section although that immediately seems over corny to me now.
Anyway, not a fun job for Ms. Merkel, and I'm fine with whatever she decides.

Dark Cloud was correct that it was difficult to create the tribute threads. I went beyond the original concept and included a photo when available, a bit about them, and some quotes from those who posted after their deaths. No one's quotes were left out intentionally. I tried to find lines that explained their impact on the boards and the people who post here. Suggestions are welcome.
Excuse me while I go find a bucket large enough for my tears . . . .

I was very sorry to hear the sad news of Trish and I warmly applaud DC's idea now implemented of memorial posts for those who have been on these boards but now passed away.
I also frequent one or two other boards, some not on this topic, and one in particular has a habit of switching to new suppliers of forum software every year or so. I have always thought it regrettable that they did this as substantial stores of knowledge are lost although perhaps they are still in some great internet repository somewhere.
It would be even more of a pity if the posts of someone who had passed on were lost, so I guess this is just a plea that if these boards ever have to move that somehow we manage to preserve what has been previously posted in a form so that we can still all access it.
Very well done Diane (and thanks to DC for the idea).
Regards
Mike

Just got around to taking a peek at the site and was shocked to learn about Trish's passing.
She and I go way back to the Delphi boards where we both took a lot of hits from the "other side". We seemed to have the same philosophy and beliefs and we always got along very well.
I will miss her insightful posts, intelligence, and willingness to stand up for her beliefs.
She was a credit to this and other boards.

Sorry, Gordie, but I'm not quite through with it yet.
Such different personalities, but all were important to us. I hope that a lot of us can meet on Last Stand Hill one day if only to celebrate their lives for a moment together.
Michael supplied a photo of DO (thank you!) but I cannot find one of Trish. Does anyone have one from one of the conferences she attended?
I should have thanked Billy for the great DO quote I borrowed/stole from his signature. If you have favorite quotes from the others, please let me know.

Trish sent me a photo of herself as an Email attachment, but I'm almost certain that I lost it when I was "cleaning up" some of my files. I'll probably stop cleaning up files from now on.

I am new to the boards, and my participation tends to be limited since nobody would ever confuse me for an expert on the Little Big Horn. I tend to stick to what I know, which is the Civil War. However, in trying to mediate the problems with the LBHA, I had quite a bit of correspondence with Tricia and came to appreciate her wit and her strong opinions. I will miss both.
I hope that the view's good from Fiddler's Green, Tricia.
