Anybody on the forum read French? If so, perhaps West could provide a copy for a review.

yep, it could be great the book describes for the first time ever Custer's battle plan on a map as Martini described it. I am now making some articles about Europeans who died or/and fought at the battle. Edward Mathey was honored by "L'Est Républicain" on June 25 2006 - see lbha.proboards12.com/index.cgi?board=Cavalry&action=display&thread=1149166021Vincent Charley and the Swiss soldiers will also be honored on July 6 2006 in a Swiss weekly magazine. Some 7th cavalry troopers found their way back home... 130 years later !

Hi West
Please pass my congratulations to your brother (CSS) on getting his book published. Unfortunately I think it would be very hard work for me to read as my French would not be good enough to understand military terms etc without continual recourse to a dictionary!
Being British I am worried that we are going to have our own LBH in Afghanistan as our Government and Nato do not seem to realise that the risks there are rather similar to those the US took in 1876. Perhaps there are some French speakers at Nato HQ in Brusselles who should read a copy!
Regards
Mike

Hello mcaryf - thanks very much for your comments, I'll send them to my brother
I am not convinced at all of a "quagmire" in Afghanistan, in Iraq or elsewhere. The War On Terror needs battlegrounds and is a enormous challenge for our democracies. We do not have any choice and the two last wars that begun in 2002 and 2003 were necessary, were vital.
There are difficulties, but also number of democratic elections and democratic revolutions (newspapers, TVs, new thinkers...) in Iraq and Afghanistan and countless evolutions. More than 50'000 terrorists have been killed in Iraq alone, it's a big success. I know that most of the press is the kind of cut-and-run crowd which does the same job for all the wars (bad stories make best sellers). But look at the situation between 2001 and 2006 : something changes.
Afghanistan and Iraq are Bin Laden's Last Stand (before being destroyed by a 1'000 ton of bombs). He knows it, and he knows that his only way to win the war is to make Western people believe that the war is lost.
No retreat before complete victory (Churchillian way !)

Hi West
I do not want to get into a debate on Afghanistan in this forum because it is the wrong place for that. However, I will just say one further thing on the topic. The cultural set up in Afghanistan is very complex with lots of clans who have struggled for local supremacy over the years and select various allies on an opportune basis as for example the Crows did the whites to fight the Sioux in 1876. When we saw the Russians dragged into this in the 1990's then the Afghans on one side become heroic freedom fighters, when another lot starts to do business with El Quaeda we see the need to get involved and a short sharp action was appropriate. Unfortunately if you hang around in Afghanistan you become part of the problem and the local clan alliances are likely to change and you find yourself in the middle of a very nasty fight.
To sum up it is a complex situation and difficult country populated with fiercely independent people. The Russians did not understand this and lost 50,000 men trying, I do not want us to go the same way.
This is my last post on this topic, I just wanted to indicate what I saw as a loose link to 1876 when some Indians were with the US government and some against.
Regards
Mike

Mcaryf, I dont' want to talk about Afghanistan here, so there are my last words about this. The population of Afghanistan is 83% pro-american and pro-coalition. One of the highest rate in the world ! No afghan LBH in sight, for british troops or any other. See : www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/brasiapacificra/155.php?nid=&id=&pnt=155Back to the book and LBH, I don't know if it will be any english translation, however if you know any friend or LBHA member from France, Belgium, Switzerland or Québec, let them know.

Congratulations!

The two first clients for the book were... Americans !!
And famous : LBHA member Rev. Vincent Heier and "Custer victorious" author Gregory J. Urwin !
With 13 drawn maps and 40 pictures, the book is a great collectible, even for not French speaking persons.
There will be perhaps one place in the US that will sell the book. The deal is not done, so wait...

I see the book is already offered on amazon.fr, so it should be easy enough for US buyers to get hold of ...
