In the 1896 Standing Rock Census Record Emma Crow King is with the family of Joseph Rosebud (age 32), his wife Annie Rosebud (age 28), his son James (6) and his mother-in-law White (51).
Emma is called Joseph Rosebud´s niece.
BTW, Oliver Low Dog and his family is listed on the same census page.

I'm looking for information on the Hunkpapa Lakota leader, Crow King, or Kangi Yatapi, and wondering if he has any living descendants. He died at Standing Rock in 1884, and I've learned that he had two daughters who survived him. The eldest, Mary, died around 1889, and the youngest, Emma, married a man named Paul Cournoyer, and moved with their two children to Armour South Dakota after his premature death, sometime around 1906. She died in 1908 in Armour, and is buried there. A daughter, Hermine, married a man named Dewey Drapeau and apparently moved to California with their young son sometime after 1932. Drapeau was a musician and bit part actor in Hollywood westerns, and appeared in the 1956 production of Around the World in Eighty Days. He died in California in 1978, and a surviving granddaughter named Carla Price was listed on his death certificate. Can anyone fill in some missing pieces from the family history?

Crow King (aka, Patriarch Crow; Kangi Yatapi or Kangi-yatipika)—(Hunkpapa Lakota – Teton Sioux) – d. at the Standing Rock Agency, 1884. Participated in the Reno battle and was partly responsible for preventing the Indians from further chasing Reno’s troops up the bluffs. Led about eighty warriors in attacks against Calhoun (Finley) Ridge and Calhoun Hill, coming in from the south. Also fought along Custer/Battle Ridge. Lost two brothers, Swift Bear and White Bull, in the Reno fight. Presence at battle confirmed.
Best wishes, Fred.

Would anyone have information about Joseph Rosebud .. what tribe, band, or previous warrior society he may have belonged to? Also, any relatives of note? Many thanks. Hi I`d visit www.american-tribes.com if I were you. I googled and found him at least mentioned here amertribes.proboards.com/thread/1571/crow-king I quote: "Children of Red Bird (---) and Crow King (---) were as follows: 7 i White Buffalo3 (---), born in Oglala Sioux Nation; died 25 Jul 1876 in Little Big Horn, Montana. 8 ii Mary3 Crow King, born 1872 in Oglala Sioux Nation. Notes: Sittine Bull surrender census pg 34 Weasel 30 Jun 1885 Standing Rock pg 66 Mary 30 Jun 1886 Standing Rock 9 iii Emma3 Crow King, born 1876 in Oglala Sioux Nation. Notes: Sittine Bull surrender census pg 34 Red Deer Kid 30 Jun 1885 Standing Rock pg 66 Emma 30 Jun 1886 Standing Rock 30 Jun 1890 Standing Rock pg 238 Emma Crow King with Grandparents Spotted Eagle and Loud Mud Hen 30 Jun 1891 Standing Rock pg 348 Emma Crow King with Grandparents Spotted Eagle and Mud Hen 30 Jun 1892 Standing Rock pg 497 30 Jun 1896 Standing Rock niece of J oseph Rosebud and Anne cousin of James Rosebud" And "Mary, the eldest daughter, died in 1889, as I recall. Emma was still living at Standing Rock in 1895, and was listed in that year's census as living with the family of a Lakota man named Joseph Rosebud. His stepmother, Skawin, or White Woman, was also part of the household at that time. I believe she may have been Crow King's younger sister, and McLaughlin stated that Crow King had at least two living sisters at the time of his death. " So I`d recommend heading over there, as many of the people there are Sioux themselves and know the family trees very well. All the best, Noggy
