Thank you, I will take that as pass and no longer will even to try work my way though some of your long and senseless rambles. For the record, I get really annoyed when people are rude to DC for no apparent reason. He has been around here consistently longer than anyone except me and swipes at him are usually the result of some anonymous person being intimidated by him. I appreciate his intelligence and humor. If you don't "get" him, that's your problem, not his, and your loss. Diane, I apologize. I find being told that my opinion isn't worth considering an apparent reason. I should have just struggled off the remark and said nothing. However as quite a people around here know, I am experiencing some nasty chemo side effects that have made me 'testy' and will probably last for most of the next few days. I think it will be better if I just withdraw from the board for awhile until things settle down, even though I find the conversation a wonderful way to distract my mind. With all due respects Beth

Respect is a two way street. If it is given it will be given back. I particularly refer to the constant disrespect, and harassment DC shows and does toward Ian and WO. It is appalling. In Ian's case it started when he joined four or five years ago, and continues to this day. With WO, who is a decorated combat veteran, DC refuses to acknowledge that fact, and by implication has called him a liar about that, and in several other areas where WO has posted.
Neither one of these people ever did a damned thing to DC, except disagree, and have been treated by him like gutter trash. They are both friends of mine, good ones, and both are completely honorable men. If someone does not speak for his friends it is a breech of honor. I will not violate that code.

I wouldn't worry about Ian and I. DC doesn't care for us, and we don't care for him. I generally ignore his ramblings nowadays, unless it's about dreadnoughts. They are usually comedy gold.

With all due respects Beth Beth You needn't apologize for expressing your thoughts about DC's post. As QC mentioned respect is a two way street and he has never been respectful to you so were within your rights to say what you did. Do not withdraw from the board unless you choose to since we are all adults and can handle ourselves. Hang in there you'll feel better tomorrow. Regards Dave

Carry no water. Fear no one. Call a spade a spade. If that is not good enough, then I am not good enough.
WO: If I thought you an Ian paid attention to tripe, I would send you both an embroidered hanky. Don't bother to check your mail box.

That attitude is almost amusing coming from the guy who has triggered the most abuse reports.
All -- quit complaining about people. Ignore those you don't like (except me, of course), and get on with intelligent discussions. A couple of you are bigger bullies than DC will ever be.
Beth, the Chemo Card doesn't work with me. Been there, done that.

This is a theoretical. What if we were to design a book on the valley fight? What are the relevant issues that need to be discussed? How would you design such a book? In my opinion, you would need a main narrative, but also must address "sidebar" discussions. Target audience must be general public, with topics for the folks with more LBH knowledge in sidebars and appendices. My intention here is to identify topics worthy of further discussion, basically what would be a chapter in a book. Montrose,
You have (correctly) raised the issue of the turning of Reno's left.
An overlooked chapter? Don't overlook Reno's mind set, if GAC was mixing recce and combat.
Had Benteen's left oblique swept Reno's rear of hostiles in the Upper LBH as he moved northwards from Ford A down towards the hostile "village"?

I am happy you are amused. I would be even happier if you were balanced on this issue. Are you saying one poster has more value than others? Are you saying this is the first you have heard of DC's attitude toward to two people I mentioned.
Both of todays posts seem to point in that direction.
I suggest you have a chat with him, but it is your board, you do as you please.

Concern for my delicate feelings is both weird and not necessary. It is in my book, weird or not. Over the years you have been extremely sensitive to a number of my issues and as I have told you in the past, I do not forget friends. As far as I am concerned you have earned a very great amount of respect here. Yes, you can be exasperating, but then so can I... I think. Best wishes, Fred.

Well then if this is the first time you have heard of it may I suggest you investigate it. You have four people back my play here so there might be some substance to it.
The first question was a cheap shot. You have been fair to me. It was intended as a wake up and smell the roses comment

Come on now let’s all calm down, we are all adults here and not teenagers. We all know what darkcloud is capable of and one of his favourite ploys is to make you feel below him, that’s why he named just a chosen few as his compadres. Now don’t get me wrong I too like these people and they along with many others are on my own list, but I won’t be losing sleep over not being on darkcloud’s list.
Yes I have been held to question by darkcloud and everyone on this board is allowed to question my posts too, but insults and put downs are a trait of his.
I don’t know if anyone remembers the music thread that Chuck, Fred, darkcloud and myself took part in a few years back? Well we all got along famously and discussed our love of music and musicians too, there was not an insult or bad word spoken in which was an enjoyable period, but when I put on a clip of the great Garry Moore I think that ended proceedings.
But seriously, let’s all forget the last 26 or 27 posts and get back to what we do best, but we have to be more tolerant to new posters and not allow old ones to make waves.
Ian.

Any thoughts on being with Reno, crossing at Ford A and riding down the valley in ignorance of what's in the Upper LBH behind you beyond Benteen is making his way across there to take a peek....?

All, I've been away 2 days, way too much energy has been spent on Robert. I have no clue as to whether Will calling DC, Robert, was a lapus lingae or not. It does not matter. What matters is what happened in the valley and why. People choose up sides, when common sense will settle the issue if it is allowed to prevail. Fan boy agendas and anti fan boy agendas need to be put aside. The alcohol arguments need to be put back in the bottle and let actual actions speak for themselves. I would love to see someone do a definitive work on this action. MacLean was not bad. What I would like to see is real focus on this action. While jaguar beat a ditch to death, he brings up fair questions. Where we need to go is, is what was done, done correctly. What impact did stress have on actions? Was promised support given in a timely fashion? What is the difference between a retreat and a break out? Was a real plan ever shared and when? I know people butt heads on this stuff all of the time. Emotion needs to be taken out of the equation. Someone should apply "what ifs" to a number of permutations. All militaries do this all of the time.
Regards, Tom
