Hey guys just reading an article in the August 2005 edition of the "Wild West" that was saying that new artifacts have been discovered on private property near the river. What has been discovered? Cheers Troy

I don't know about that, but I myself found a bullet while I was at the battlefield earlier this month in between Medicine Tail Coulee and Deep Coulee. I'm gonna take it to an expert first chance I get.

Tim, if the bullet was found on NPS property, I wouldn't tell anyone!

Part-time ranger Mike Donahue found artifacts at a new cavalry position north and west of LSH. Mike is supposed to be writing a book about this find. Anyone have any news on this book?

Michael wrote to me in July that he was finishing the book and hoped to find a publisher soon.

Sounds like Cemetery Ridge. I think its pretty clear E and/or F were below and west of LSH, before pulling back to the hill. Very interesting stuff, I look forward to hearing more about this.

It doesn't say on it where it was made, but it looks like a Civil War era canteen. I did some research, and apparently its from a place called Replica. Sounds Italian.

Whenever I hear new artifacts have been found at the LBH I cringe. The Little Big Horn Battlefield is a contaminated site. The army camped there numerous times after the battle and generally camped down by the river, they probably left numerous artifacts, buttons, beltplates, horseshoes, etc. The Indians probably dumped and discarded items they took from the battle and then you have ten thousand tourists and a movie having been shot there. It would be very hard to say for sure if this was a new site in regard to the battle. Does anyone at the battlefield ever take this into consideration?

Actually the bullet was on private property...but I'm not gonna get into that...let's just say I didn't go all the way to Montana to just stick to the trails, though I love how the NPS has preserved the battlefield. I'm currently in the middle of touring the Petersburg battlefield in Virginia-it's a huge perimeter! Next weekend I plan on hitting Five Forks, Namozine Church, Sayler's Creek, and Appomattox. I guess I'll kind of be seeing the Civil War in reverse.

No matter how sunny or warm the day, you will get a cold feeling standing on the open ground before the Confederate trenches. Best of wishes, Billy

Yeah, I'm here attending the QM OBC course, and I'm lucky in that my class has a whole bunch of three and four-day weekends and two weeks off for Christmas Break, so I plan on hitting everything. I'll hit Cold Harbor when I do my trek to the Wilderness/Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg area. It's on my priority list, believe me.

Hi Tim, I fully agree with Billy. Cold Harbour is one of the best sites, as far as I am concerned. Ron
