Very interesting . . . but Cross stated Girard was killed and we know he was not. Again the veracity of some of the testimony leaves a lot to be desired.

Actually, the way I am reading it is that the correspondent is the one who reported Girard dead, not Cross. Did I miss another reference somewhere else? Billy

I was wrong, BJ. You are not three people. You are four. Addressing crzhrs concern, and as I type this I see you have already responded, on first reading it appears that those Cross refers to as killed, but were not, were in fact persons left behind in the woods--Gerard, DeRudio. This may help in determing when Cross actually left the scene. I think it is interesting, and may even be valuable. I regard sifting through the accounts of participants such as the scouts and Indians, accounts that have already been filtered by the perceptions of others, as similar to placer mining. You have rocks and sand and gravel. You smash the rocks into pieces, toss it all in a sluice box, run water through it, shake it down, and hope that for every ton of debris processed you will discover an ounce of the real thing---what the old time prospectors referred do as paying quantities. Thank you for your contributions. D O

Billy -- and everyone in Rita's path -- please check in whenever you can after she's passed through to let us know that you're OK. I'm going to set up a thread in the LBHA Members section so that we can try to keep track of people. God bless.
