That’s fair enough Chuck; at least you choose single malt and not a blend.

Britt, I saw your post on the other board. Ken Hammer-- not me-- was the one who claimed Nowlan was at the PRD. There appears to be a little screw-up by the publisher, one I had not seen before. I believe they omitted a sentence there. Go to the Gaffney entry... I believe Nowlan was on the "Far West," not at PRD. As for Alcott, I have him at PRD and letters or memories some 50 years later don't work for me, especially when someone claims the June Returns are in error. The question would be, why would Alcott-- an A Company sergeant-- be on the "Far West"? It is possible-- though I find it unlikely-- troops moved up from Powder River and were able to view the battlefield, because Terry did not reach the "Far West" with the 7th's wounded until about 2 AM on the 30th. Best wishes, Fred.

Ian: One must maintain one's standards. Why not? The NVA did and look what happened.

Best wishes, Fred. Thanks Fred. I see Gerry provided additional information on Alcott. The June return would still be correct though as he was left at the PRD. The June return wasn't completed and signed until Nov. 6 and they aren't really designed to account for the daily movements of enlisted men. Every officer is usually entitled to an enlisted orderly or helper/stryker and Alcott being the only one with Nowlan would likely be his choice. There would be no reason for Alcott to remain on the boat if Nowlan left early with Terry on the 24th. I suppose everyone is sure he didn't go back to FAL with the wounded. I suspect they keep better track of officers in the returns so I wonder, what does the June return say for Nowlan? Thanks. bc

Perhaps the babies are a comment on some of the conversations here.

Britt, I guess ProBoards decided to upgrade their system. Have you seen it on your cell phone yet? The other site hasn't changed yet. I am still uncertain of this Alcott business. Nowlan had I Company sergeant, George Gaffney, assigned to him, and Gaffney was on the "Far West." Alcott was from A Company and was the only NCO with three A Company privates left at the PRD. The question becomes, why would Alcott be on the "Far West"? I can see already I am going to have to extend some of my work into early July 1876. Best wishes, Fred.
