I link HERE Signature of Young Officer, J.J. Crittenden, Killed With Custer at the Battle of Little Bighorn. Signature, with autograph identification below, 1st Lieutenant 22nd Infantry, no place, no date (circa October 1875 – June 1876); on a sextodecimo slip of lined paper, clipped from a larger page. Rare.
There is a minor difficulty with 22nd Infantry, of course. Here it is - Lieutenant Colonel John Jordan Crittenden was the son of Colonel Eugene Wilkenson Crittenden who was the son of Senator and Kentucky Governor John Jordan Crittenden.
J.J. Crittenden was born 1857.
Appointed from Kentucky, Second Lieutenant, 22nd U. S. Infantry, 14 December 1876
First Lieutenant, 20 July 1882
Captain, 6 June 1894
Major, 2 February 1901
CRITTENDEN, JOHN J - LT COL USA RTD - DATE OF DEATH: 12/21/1927

Shapell Manuscript Foundation* - Signature of Young Officer, J.J. Crittenden, Killed With Custer at the Battle of Little Bighorn. This being the Officer serving with 22nd US Infantry, it cannot be the Officer with 20th Infantry who fought with 7th Cavalry at Little Bighorn.

There is some difficulty involving confusions over two J. Crittenden's serving with infantry regiments on the Plains in 1876. This spills over into collections and historical recoed and thence into chaains of insight and information going forward. A drawing of Crittenden's 1877 Little Bighorn grave marker indicating 22nd Infantry, rather than his unit as 20th Infantry, has recently surfaced and generated speculation regarding the series of events between July 1877 and April 1879. Crittenden's unit was given as 20th Infantry on the marker placed by 7th Cavalry in 1877 and must raise questions as to the state of mind of someone sketching the marker at the time or later.
I link to an sketch image associated with the signature of J.J. Crittenden 22nd Infantry link signed by L. Bjorklund. The image is related to information about Signature of Young Officer, J.J. Crittenden, Killed With Custer at the Battle of Little Bighorn.

The Indians of Northeastern America by Karna L. Bjorklund and Lorence F. Bjorklund - Jan 1, 1969.
In researching this mingled mangle of realities, which is history because lets face it, no one knows it all; I bumped into someone worthy of a moments thought and salute. An ordinary guy to remember briefly - Arnold L. Bjorklund
