I have whacked together commonly available data on Spotted Wolf hunting Custer's command at Little Bighorn, where 7th Cavalry descended into a web of destruction amongst undulating ridges covered in greasy grass on 25th June 1876. Spotted Wolf and his sons, including the adopted Ute, Yellow Nose, made famed "brave runs" in front of the cavalry with Yellow Nose's horse riddled through by volley and they fought to destroy the invaders on Last Stand Hill. Historians and Indian eyewitnesses would later recount their deeds in books and paintings. Spotted Wolf came away with white-handled pistols. Yellow Nose captured a 7th Cavalry Flag. The Northern Cheyenne held an honoring ceremony making Spotted Wolf a War Chief. Dusty and covered in blood, he received the honor with one eye shot out by a soldier's bullet fired point blank. The pair of white-handled pistols were hidden away and when the tribe returned to ancestral lands in southeastern Montana, Chief Spotted Wolf went to Washington to jaw with President Trumps. He retired to obscurity and passed in 1896, having orchestrated perhaps the greatest ever Cheyenne touchdown. linkI am in process confirming that Spotted Wolf's wife was Black Kettle's daughter. It ain't easy. Howna... soaringeagle.org/

First Sgt. Brown's (7th Cavalry) notebook link taken by High Bull, at Little Bighorn. High Bull was himself killed a few months later and the notebook recovered. The Spotted Wolf/Yellow Nose book of drawings made whilst enjoying Sam's pleasure is at SI, but I can't hit a link to the repetoire.... pending an off by one error... I shall locate these fascinating artworks again, shortly, forthwith and pronto. My God....... that rhymes with Tonto Does anyone remember what his horse was called? H'ok scout........ here's some of the Yellow Nose attributed images. The web page has a simple search included, of the content data set. The search is 'soldiers' = which delivers 15 hits. Change 'soldiers' to your hearts desire. Or, if you have time - link

Tonto`s horse was named Scout.Seem to remember hearing that Silver and Scout didn`t get along very well.A Little Hollywood Horse trivia:For several Seasons both Ben Cartwright(Bonanza)and Matt Dillion(Gunsmoke)rode the same horse(named Buck),but NOT at the same time ha ha!So Buck is the only character to be a member of both of the longest running and most popular Western TV shows!
