With my recent mentioning of Sam Elliott as Gen Buford in the film ‘Gettysburg’, I was reminded of this less-known film he was in.
I only found out about it a while ago by the catching of the last 20-30 minutes of it on television.
I found out it was based on the true story of Gen. Oliver Otis Howard’s pursuit of Chief Joseph, the former like the officer I study, only having the use of one arm.
Of the whole film, the speech made by Chief Joseph at the end is what stuck with me the most afterwards.
I consider it a gem of a film in the same vein as the other TV film based on a novel of Gen Custer’s LBH court martial.
