Amazon is sending out invitations to create hardcovers in addition to their regular paperback and ebook options.
The minimum page count is 75, but last week it was 62. I have a few resurrected, out of print, pre-1933 LBH titles that I thought about putting up, but I settled on the French Court-martial from the microfiche.
Amazon allows color interior and black and white. You can choose white or cream paper. In my test, Amazon will take almost $9 of the book price. I don't know enough from a traditional perspective to know if that's a great deal, but it is on demand, so there's no stocking or logistics to worry about.
I love Richard Upton, so I'm not saying it's ideal to chase off niche stores and publishers. I've spent a small fortune on titles from him.
And as a passing thought, I wonder if some of the content out there would do better as a hardcover from the perspective of scarcity, instead of authors offering ebooks that are relatively easy to pirate.
I was pleasantly surprised with the ease of the process. Amazon has a built-in cover creator, but based on prior experience, I made my own (kind of obvious if you see it). Under pressure from users during this beta, Amazon came out with a better cover size guide. It's on the site instead of a .csv download that looked unprofessional and kind of buggy.
I'm hoping that's helpful for folks,
EEH

Hi!
This was interesting, and I really prefer my books having hardcover. Now, if I only can find someone to make a hardcover for all the articles and stuff I have printed out over the years...by bookshelf is full of papers sticking out here and there.
All the best, Noggy

If it deals with the LBH, I might toss a little effort your way. Look at the "Bullets, Boots" article for how I now format for print. It's listed here: littlebighorn.info/Articles.htm
