Hello from western NYS! I’m Dave Hasler a new member as of today. I’ve always enjoyed the Indian Wars and SpAm War period regarding the US Cavalry. My grandfather was in a NYS (National Guard) cavalry unit in the early 1920’s so that’s probably where the interest comes from. I’m a retired schoolteacher so lots of free time now to pursue my interests in US History. I’m currently converting one of our guest rooms into my history library display room... man cave withoutsports stuff and a bar!!! I taught advanced high art classes for 32 years in AZ. When I retired we moved back home to western NY south of Rochester. I have pretty good drawing and painting skills along with many craft proficiencies! I’m currently making a 5 button blue wool undress coat with LT shoulderboards. What I’d like to do is to make the following items which I need either patterns, plans, or good pics to work from! If anyone can help out or send me in the right direction I’d sure appreciate the help! Items I’d like to make: Officer’s belt...with the various cartridge boxes etc... Carbine sling Canteen straps Wooden crate/box for pistol or rifle ammunition Wooden footlocker used by officers... did they use one? Holster pattern for 1873 Colt And.... looking for a Trapdoor Springfield carbine for display! It can be rough. Not really interested in firing it! Repro would be ok too! Basically I love to make “stuff” and stay busy! If anyone can help out I’d greatly appreciate it! Any suggestions on possible display items etc would be perfect too! Thanks very much Dave dhasler16@gmail.com

Thanks very much Dave A friend of mine can help or certainly steer you in the right direction. He was the chief conservator for the museum or historic division of the state of North Carolina government and currently lives in Gettysburg. He is also from upstate New York (I am a "downstater"): Cherry Valley/Sharon Springs area. I will email you the information on how to contact him. It will take several days because he does not have a computer and only wanders to the library once a week or so to use theirs. I know of no one in this world who knows more about this stuff than he. Best wishes, Fred.
