Has anyone read this? It`s available to me for a cheap prize, so I might just grab it either way, but the first page I looked at stated that Weir and co could see LSH from Weir Point and that made me hesitant. (Because you can`t, can you?)

Been there done that, not clear but you can see the obelisk, even with current 12 power you really can't see great detail. I don't have a clue as to what they had.

People say they can see a lot of stuff with binoculars--which Benteen had...but they speak of modern optics. Last year a friend and I brought a pair of the best Paris made 19th century binoculars and climbed Weir hill and looked... And saw nothing. It Was a clear day, with no gunsmoke or Indian pony raised dust clouds; we could see a van or maybe cars, but could not detect people at all from that distance, not with the binoculars that were available to the soldiers of that time. Optics have vastly improved during the 20th century.
