Dan,
While the Yellowstone depot carried Terry's name for the next several years. It was nothing other than standard operation, Crook had set one up as well. For all I know Gibbon could have selected the site. It was to be used as a base of operations and resupply location. There is one from the ACW about 10 miles from my house, Port Royal, VA. There were no forts in that area of Montana, as what was they had been removed in a deal with Red Cloud 7 or 8 years earlier.
Regards, Tom

I agree Tom. I have always found it amazing that some of our officers never have to be concerned with logistics other than their immediate person. A OUI checkpoint for Lake Powell in July or August begins with picking a date in January. That is to avoid conflicting dates with all of the Regions. That is easy. Getting everything together including coordination with 3 Regions, Page PD, volunteers, and NPS takes numerous meeting and planning is an involved process.
We are holding a shoot this Wednesday in Page and for most it will involve drive your truck to Page, bring your weapons, bring eye and ear protection, water, and sunscreen. Pack a lunch or go to a restaurant.
Will brings up KSAs and those include the basic skills you must have in order to do your job. Godfrey wrote about how funny it was to see the troopers try to pack the mules. In reality it is pathetic that they were on the move and the first day of packing was in the field.
To me to be tactical means you have choices if not it is emergency and you take appropriate action with less than you could if you had basic knowledge and skills. If you have to spend time, energy, and thinking in order to preform basic skills that takes away from your ability to accomplish the mission.
