It's interesting across the many treads where Reno is whipped for not disobeying the order to bring up the packs. Many saying he should have brought up only ammo and raced to Custer's side. These are all incomplete thoughts started by a childish Weir and continue to today. Custer hardly expended a fraction of the 22,000 rounds he had. Not contemplated by the many is one would have to abandon the wounded (something the more experienced Reno knew). The others too dim to realize. One would also have to abandon the pack train to be slaughtered and the last and only order from Custer was to bring them along. Custer may have had a greater need for shovels, water and anything he could use to hide behind than more ammunition.
Reno never seemed to give anyone a break and so no one gave him one. When he later told his officers if they moved from their corral they would have to abandon their wounded they blamed and hated him all the more and forever. Reality is the Officers lacked the basic intelligence to see they were (moving and abandoning) inextricabley linked. This is a double bind.
Off course I guess I am at odds with the Offensive Paradigm: a charge to Ford D. All the bright bulbs thinking waiting an hour in full view of the enemy of 2,500 warriors while your reserve runs a 2 mile gauntlet ( so Reno lost 30% a mile so your reserve will be down 60% on arrival so figure 100 men reach you and your 220 are being spent at 110 an hour so you've got about 1/2 left or 110 to start your epic paradigm "Offense to Ford B" or the "March of the Zombi's". So after all that wait and loss of all surprise you have a force of 210 men all in shock (humans generally withstand a 10% loss well at 50% men collapse) miraculously you cross at Ford D to find an empty Village and thousands of warriors: Ye Hah, ride em soldier boy!
