"The Hood's Sunk!" Meant in all due and great respect. Shaw, Sometimes the less said, the better. You nailed it. And I, for one, consider your post exquisite and something he would smile at. While it is not my place to say so, I shall thank you anyway. Very best wishes, Fred.

I just wanted to stop in and pay my respects to Dark Cloud. For a long time I wanted to stop in and visit him in Boulder on one of my few trips driving by Boulder but never made it. He had a rough and tough exterior expressed in writing but was also a nice and thoughtful guy. Way back at the start I had a brushup or two with him leaving me to write a few mean replies that I would either delete after a few hours or erase before posting them. Watching others argue with him was like beating their heads against the wall, both painful and useless because they will never win against him. I finally went to his website and read some of his opinions. Then started listening to his weekly radio show which I could pick up on my computer or phone through a radio app. He offered opinions on various subjects and what I respected about him was that he would state his opinion and sign his name to it which is something rare nowadays and the reason I quit reading the editorial page because the editors didn't have the guts to put their name on their opinion. Dark Cloud, Richard Macleod, was like George Patton. In writing with his avatar he presented as being a rough and tough guy. On the radio he even sounded like Patton with his high voice that didn't match the mental image formed of him from his posts. I finally realized that oftentimes what people took as being scolded at was really him kidding around. We reached a stage of mutual respect where we could kid each other about things without it becoming a major firefight such as Kansas vs. Colorado, Chiefs vs. Broncos, and so on. He was quite the Denver Broncos fan and let us all know about it. We also enjoyed talking about other things such as sailing, WWI, and WWII in which he had a lot of expertise. Regarding his website, I haven't checked but I hope his brothers do something to preserve his computer server and websites so they can remain open to the public. It doesn't cost that much anymore to do it. Richard Macleod passed away on July 2, 2015 at the tender young age of 67 years in a time where we think we should get into our upper 80's at a minimum. I know so many people that don't get there but enough do. I checked and his last post was on June 9, 2015 at 11:22 a.m. The last time he signed into the board was June 12, 2015 at 10:40 p.m. Back on February 13 he was telling people he wasn't on the board as much and the best way to reach him was by email. The record for this board shows him joining on February 13, 2006 and accumulated 5,681 posts which qualified Dark Cloud as a Grand Master. He was a longtime member before 2006 but that may have been the year when Proboards changed formats and everyone had to start over. I suspect he had between ten to fifteen thousand posts overall. Here is an article written about him after his death by the Boulder newspaper, The Daily Camera. www.dailycamera.com/news/boulder/ci_28502019/memorial-set-richard-macleod-onetime-boulder-theater-managerBack when I started on the boards both he and I had the same theory that an officer, most likely Custer, was killed at Ford B and then everything fell apart. I moved away from that in short time after figuring out Custer couldn't have been killed there and moved on to other theories such as a movement to the D fords but there are times when I come full circle back to an officer being killed at ford B and everything falling apart but with an enlarged time frame but then I am still reading and investigating. Who knows but maybe Dark Cloud had it right. It is time to close. Rest in Peace Dark Cloud at .... least until the Chiefs beat the Broncos and then you can roll over in your grave.<g> bc

Best wishes, Fred.

He cut quite the swath. I used to always wonder what he was going to say next. We are poorer by his leaving. A loss to us all.
