Tom How was the hog hunt? Right time of year for making bacon, cracklings and chittlins! You know if you would add in a little goat BBG and some Rooster fries and cold beer we could have a great LBH conference. Regards Dave

I had to look up rooster frieds because I have never heard of them. Sounds interesting. If I ever get to your neck of the woods I will be sure to try at least a few of the local treats. it makes me wonder what foods from the midwest people might consider at least strange thing to eat or a strange way to fix it.

Beth I am sure that you could get rooster fries and rocky mountain oysters in Omaha. The stockyards there hold some of everything I imagine. I have heard stories about the lutefisk they have in Minnesota. Supposed to be pretty bad. If you come down this way we will feed you some catfish, collard greens, okra, fried green tomatoes, BBQ, fried chicken, chicken fried steak and homemade ice cream, pecan pie, lemon ice box pie, chocolate pie, brownies and other assorted treats. Just about everything you can get in Texas. I have heard that it is really hard to get into Franklin's BBQ. Must be pretty good Q. Damn I am hungry now. Regards Dave

Regards Dave Beth, Dave, it was hunting not killing/scoring. We had a great time, great camaraderie, met some fine folks shared stories and great cooking. That is what hunting camps are all about. They call it hunting not killing. Got invite to hunt Alaska and Long Island, offered deer hunt in VA and pig hunt in FL. Great bourbon, good Scotch, wonderful people.
Regards, Tom

Tom Sounds like such a miserable time. Bless your're heart. Having to put up with good companions, food and good sour mash. I had a wonderful time with all of the ice and low temps. Life is not fair. The trip to Alaska sounds like the best deal. I would love to go on a cruise off Alaska but my wife gets sea sick on little 98,000 ton liners. Regards Dave

If it is not fun at our age don't do it. I have grandchildren, as well, they are great. Your zoo trip was as good as mine. For sure! Darn, I sound like a valley girl! God bless.

Regards Dave Sounds great, as you pointed out some of those are easily available in TX but every area of the country adds it's own twists to the local favorites. I've not made it to Franklin's. The lines are horrible and they usually sell out pretty quickly and unlike Obama, I can't go to the head of the line. Been to Rudy's which is a chain but pretty decent food. I want to try Salt Lick but we haven't had a chance yet. We really don't eat out a lot and to go out with all four of us is difficult because we have to board the dog-he has extremely severe seperation anxiety. I've had lutefisk because my dad is from one of the Iowa towns that was settled by Norweigans so I grew up on lefse, kringle and other Norweigan delights. We moved away when I was 5 but before that I used to be able to count to 10 in Norweigan and had a few other Norweigan words. Of course I've lost them all now. I'd rather eat lutesik than Kumla btw but would prefer to pass on both--oh and I love Sven and Ole jokes. Suprisingly, I have spent very little time in Omaha, when I was little we lived near Des Moines so why run all the way to Omaha and when we relocated to the northern part of the state we lived closer to the Twin Cities.

Ian What no haggis? No blood pudding, black current jelly, tripe and onion or peas and mash? Oh yes Ginger Beer. I have a brother in law from Greenwich who has been in the states since 1972 and I still cannot understand a word he says over the phone. His mother used to send a basket a couple of times a year and it had all of his favorite foods. I am not making fun of y'alls foods because I love souse, boudin sausage, escargot, andouille sausage and any cajun/creole food. I mean I eat sardines, anchovies but no lutefisk. Come on over to Mississippi and we will try all of foods you like. My treat. Regards Dave

Hi Dave, Haggis is not bad actually the Jocks do eat some strange stuff though like deep fried mars bars, Justin's lot have their Welsh rarebit and Glamorgan sausages, what goes on over in Ireland is their business, we though have a more cultured attitude to food though they nick our recipes and call them their own like the French do, because we have a cold climate over here we eat a lot of stews especially with dumplings and staples like bangers and mash.
I bet if I met you guys in public you would understand me ok, just don't let me sing though (laughs).

Ian We could always go to pub and sing, drink warm porter and sing. Unfortunately most of the songs I know would not be welcome in an English pub. The Clancy Brothers, Tommy Makem, Dubliners and other traitorous groups. However I have played played darts. I am a bit of a history buff regarding the RAF in May through October of 1940. We could start with the Eagles Dave, everybody knows their songs and I will have a gold beer please, yes the famous few of that Spitfire summer.
Did you know that Winston Churchill suffered a bout of depression after the failure at Gallipoli? And the only thing that saved him was leaning to paint, in fact he got so good he sold some in exhibition in Paris, he used a pseudonym of course so that people bought them on merit and not his fame.

Ian I agree with the choice of the eagles, but I'd love to drift to Liverpool where all the good lads came from. Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers and the Hollies. I knew Churchill was part of that fiasco but did not know about the depression and taking up painting. I would say it was to the benefit of mankind that he did paint because he was a mighty warrior for Britain and the world during the 2nd WW. I don't know if the UK could have stood without him all alone (not forgetting her commonwealth members) against the axis powers. He was quite a character. I remember doing a paper on him in the 10th grade just after his funeral which we watched in class. The only other time we watched a television event was JFK's inauguration in the 6th grade. Regards Dave

Dave I live about 20 minutes’ drive from Liverpool, I am a fan of that genre of Music know to us locals as the “Mersey Beat” when I first started as a musician we used to play the various working class pubs and clubs around the area and if you didn’t include any Beatles, Stones and the rest in your repertoire got the cold shoulder or even worst.
I have a copy of the White Album signed by Sir Paul McCartney, the missus wants to sell it (its worth around £300-400) but I refused, anyway he is still alive so if will only increase in value once he has gone to the great gig in the sky, bless him.
