Scar, you are from Georgia and don't seem to care much for F.W. Benteen, maybe you could get the name of this school in Atlanta changed. It is named for F.W.Benteen COL USA.

The trivia part is the school was named for Frederick Wilson Benteen, COL USA, not Frederick William Benteen. This guy died in 1956 and was the son of a ACW hero and perceived LBH goat.

And by the way, his son-in-law, Myron Steves, is still alive-- 101 years old, I believe-- still makes all the LBHA conferences, and still drives. The family all live in or just outside of Houston. This fellow's son, Buddy Steves, is the one who takes all the photos for the LBHA's newsletter showing the conference participants. Best wishes, Fred.

Benteen was a man of the south having been born not all that far from you Tom, in Petersburg.
He was originally buried in Atlanta, and at a time when Yankee soldiers, were not that particularly welcome in those parts, dead or alive. I think he had a governor and a mayor among his pallbearers. He was moved to Arlington later. This does not sound to me like he was stained so badly in the eyes of those who counted. We don't allow demonstrated malingerers and cowards to be buried in National Cemeteries.
