Prayers for the families of those murdered at Charlie, in Paris. Murdered for cartoons and satire.
I remember as a child going to the editorial page of the Baltimore Sun to see the cartoons lampooning local, state, national, world, and yes even religious leaders. I've seen a crucifix in urine among other exhibitions that I find tasteless, then I consider freedom of speech and expression.
The world is lucky I am not in The White House as I would seriously consider making a glass factory of vast portions of the middle east, that would be something these bastards would understand. Waterboarding would be at the bottom of my questioning techniques, falling below fingernails, dental work and other such free medical care. When in prison they could have crab cakes, spareribs, ham, or starve. No mats or holy books.
Just a few random thoughts for the day.
Regards, Tom

Yes Tom I saw that on the News as I ate my supper. That stuff first started with Salman Rushdie back in the 1980s when he publish his book “the satanic verses” he had to go into hiding because the Muslim extremists wanted to kill him, now we have this, that’s why some schools over here scrapped any plans to have school nativity plays at Christmas, they didn’t want to upset the Muslims and other religious sects.

Tom, I don't think we have the determination (as a country) to deliver to these terrorists what they deserve. What's it going to take? Some device exploding in a large city?
Never mind. Tough to stop once I get started.
Best, c.

My guess is that they are home grown right there in La Belle France, or nearly so.
I highly doubt the French will take them alive.
Such is the nature of war in the 21st Century and we better damned well wrap our arms around this type of low level conflict or they will beat us.
NOW LET'S GET SERIOUS
Our knee jerk reaction to these things is always turn their towns and cities into ground glass. If anyone thinks that would really stop it, be my guest. Do it and see just how long Pax Uncle Sam lasts. It won't. They would be back at it within days putting bombs under the onions in your local Safeway.
I would venture to say that you could catch these people, round up their families and extended families down to kissin cousins and their next door neighbors and publicly butcher them alive, and they would be still planting bombs in the onion pile at Safeway.
They are afraid of something but dying, individually or in droves or in millions is not what it is. When we find out what it is, and use it then it will stop.
As a first step I think WE should come to a realization that Islam is not a moderate/peaceful religion that has been hijacked and radicalized, but rather a radical violent religion, that had over time been moderated in Western practice. We need to get our heads around that one fact, before we can either do or accomplish diddly squat.
Before you do that it is well to realize that Islam is seven centuries younger than Christianity, so think back to 1300 and see what all those good Christians were doing at the time. Stake burning, sacking cities, enslaving populations, eye gouging, the rack comes to mind. Think about it and I think you will all see what I mean.
I made the remark on 11 September 2001 that we had better prepare ourselves for a war lasting a hundred or more years. I have made the same remark several times since, and possibly here. We will win, but it will be a long struggle, for the focus of all mankind is always forward, despite those who would take us back. Make no mistake though we will take our lumps, and some may be of such magnitude to make previous attacks seem like an afternoon tea. This is the new face of war. We must adapt to it, all of us, all the time until our grand children's grand children win the final victory, which will be more of a dying gasp, rather than VE Day.

There should only be one sentence for an act of terror. It should be universal, one that transcends all borders, public disembowelment and the entrails fed to swine. That goes for all of them Muslim, Christian, Foreign, Domestic. Terrorism is only slightly higher on the low end of the crime scale than child molestation. You should see the punishment I would reserve for them.
How is that for freedom of speech.
And here all this time you thought I was a bleeding heart liberal who had tofu for dinner. Didn't you?
This may sound like a dumb question, actually it is fostered by my own ignorance on the subject. Is terrorism or and act of terror a clearly defined crime here in the United States? I know that the acts committed during a terror attack are crimes, murder, attempted murder, use of explosives, and the rest, but that is not the question. Is an act of terror in and of itself a crime?

Oldest son was attached to Homeland Security for a while I am sure he has the handbook description. My mind tells me it's like porn, I know it when I see it.

No Tom, what I mean is there a specific crime labeled terrorism, like there is a specific crime labeled homicide, manslaughter, theft, extortion etc. I am not at all sure there is. I know the components of terror and the acts associated with it are crime, but is terror a stand alone crime on the books and clearly defined. That I don't know.

I don’t know about you guys but it seems to be an issue of extreme selfishness on their part, someone said years ago that these radicle Muslims have been brainwashed into thinking that if they kill anyone that is not of their faith and die in the process then they will go straight to paradise without passing go, and once they arrive in this place they call heaven then a 100 virgins will be at their beckon call and they will be forever in eternal bliss, so if this is one of the reason then this is nothing but selfishness. Plus if they want to continually get their “leg over” with a different virgin every hour, then what about these female extremist? Are these what the clerics say make up the thousands of virgins who are there to pleasure these men? So one the problems we have is to try and explain to these nutcases that if there is a heaven (and I hope there is as there are quite a few people I would like to see again) then it will not be this place were mass murders can have sex on tap and women are not simply slaves. When I mentioned yesterday about the school nativity play, I forgot about this, imagine your town hall not being able to fly the “stars and bars”; linkThis why you find that there is a growing resentment about these issues, if I found out that our town hall had refused to fly my flag, then I will cut myself a pole and fly my own “Hail to St George and England”. Ian.

Remember the murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby? Those two murdering pigs got life after having a fair trial, they even had legal representatives (lawyers) too at the expense of the British tax payer, one they got convicted they put in an appeal claiming that it was not murder but an act of war, so being the fair and honest nation we are, we then let them have their appeal, now this court session lasted three hours so it again would cost a pretty penny when you take it all into account, well the judge refused and they will be held at Her Majesties pleasure for the rest of the natural lives, tough some may say, to hell I say as these two ass holes will have a nice central heated cell and three hot meals a day, as their victim Lee Rigby got decapitated and his family will have to live with their loss. If you wish to recap on this horrible event then the link below to take you through it, as I cannot watch this again and if I had my way these guys would have been shot dead on the street. linkIan.

That answers my question Chris and thanks.
It seems that early reports as they almost always are were inaccurate, and these people still at large, unless someone has seen a later update this morning.
Ian: Most of the time I am against the death penalty. I can understand the murder committed during robbery, not condone mind you but understand. I can understand the most common motives for murder and don't condone them either. For people who commit those crimes I don't think death appropriate, rather the more harsh punishment is life in prison, where they have a lifetime to reflect upon their misdeed, and waste of a God given gift, that being life itself.
Terrorists and those that molest and abuse children however are another matter. They must be removed once and for all from the face of the earth. I was watching one of those crime shows the other night, that Beth so loves, and she has gotten me semi hooked on. The show recounted a crime in the late 1940's, kidnapping and murder of a seven year old boy, by a man and woman. They were caught, tried, found guilty and executed a month later. No fuss, no muss, just dead for a most despicable act. There are people in this world that just need killing.

Thanks for the info, Chris, but it sounds to me that it would be the prosecutors call, much like "Hate Crimes".
Ian, you not only pay for the court proceedings, but upkeep and healthcare, special meals, prayer rugs, and prayer books. Lovely!
