For friends of Arlene and Rod King in the Great Northwest --
Arlene, who died on Christmas Eve, will lie in state this Saturday, January 7, from 2:00 until 4:00 Pacific Time, at Golden's Funeral Services, 603 Commercial Street, S.E., Salem, Oregon.
Arlene Reynolds and Rod King met in Hardin on June 24, 1993, the same day Chuck and I met. I dropped Chuck off at his motel that evening, and we saw Rod (Chuck's roommate) return from his evening. He said, "I've just had the most fantastic night of my life." Arlene and Rod had each met their soulmate.
Arlene was multi-talented: actress, singer, living history lecturer, author, and editor. She is probably best known for her award-winning book The Civil War Memories of Elizabeth Bacon Custer in which she edited never-before-published letters and notes by Libbie.
A celebration of Arlene's life will be held at the Surftides Inn in Lincoln City, Oregon, on March 4.
As Rod said, using a Plains Indian expression, "My heart is on the ground."

Diane--
I'm terribly sorry to hear about your friend. Obviously, I don't know them, but my prayers go out to all of you.
Very best wishes, Fred.
