Excuse me if this has been discussed before. I was reading Thunder Rolling on the High Plains, Charley Reynolds and George Custer's Journey to the Little Big Horn by Lester Stanley Orestad. I'm not here to discuss the novel, but to tell about the the second part of the book, where Lester presents his views of the battle. Now I am not a regular here and maybe Lester posts under a moniker that I am not aware of. Anyhow, the main part of Lester's thesis is that the Lone Tepee and the morass should be reversed, and he states why he came to this conclusion. I have not studied the play-by-by-play of the battle as in depth as many of you here and don't have the time to try to prove or disprove his theory at this point in time. However I did type up some of his text in which he sets forth his views. I don't want to post it as I suppose it would infringe upon his copyright. However, if someone wants to read it, it is 3 pages long and you can email me. Please put "LBH theory" in the subject line. My email is marcsdesign(AT)yahoo.com
Lastly, for those interested, True West magazine (January 2013) picked my book, Sioux War Dispatches, as a "Favorite Western Read" for 2012, stating: Abrams sifts a trove of frontier-era newspaper correspondence to glean a compilation of choice finds, yielding insights not only into the tumults of the day, but also into the minds of the chroniclers themselves.
