Here are some pics of took of the Deep Ravine Trail back in 2009. The ravine where the 28 bodies are supposed to be is a lot closer to the river than what I usually think.
I read an NA account somewhere that said Deep Ravine was the last battle although the roll up of all five companies occurred fairly fast in succession. However, if a bunch of soldiers jumped up and ran down towards Deep Ravine from LSH, then that suggests that maybe they were still fighting down there. Keogh had probably just been overrun and all those NAs were on the verge of overrunning LSH when they decided to jump up and run. The last remaining firing from the troopers on the west slope of LSH likely left a clear field to the west.

Here is the rattlesnake that interrupted my trip down the ravine. I stuck around for a while warning people until it left and quit rattling.
