Wild served, he said, apparently as a clerk of some sort. I never served at all. In my innocence I wondered aloud as to why the adj of such an illustrious regiment was not issued with a duplicate order book. It's insurance you see for that special moment when you see your cherrybums charging into the wrong valley and such misfortunes. However his dark eminence thought this far too clerkish ,the back of a packet of Lucky Strikes being quiet adequate for low level "come quick"piffle. Thus my military experience was always regarded as the common or company clerk veriety.

I haven't been to Bertesgarten since 1965, and I couldn't see much of the LBH either, although that might be because the Eagles Nest is in the south German Alps. Only this chick Sarah somebody said she could see it. I have high hopes the Crow's Nest in Montana will provide better results. Custer was a spin doctor, but I don't think his mere survival would have generated a victory. Survival was an option till crossing MTC, and if he'd kept the regiment together earlier he might have fought a more successful fight on the supreme cavalry ground across the river. I think Benteen had it right when he intuited the Indians had their s___ together that day and were of the correct mindset, and had rest and food and something dear to fight for, and were numerous. The 7th had none of that. My bad. Apologies. I meant the Crows Nest but I visited the Eagles Nest too in the fall of 1974. I asked a shopkeeper in Berchtesgarten where the Eagles nest was and she said, "Don't ask me about Hitler and I won't ask you about Nixon." I found my own way up.
