Steve, you bring up something about revolvers that has always scared me. I've never owned a revolver and since having a bad experience with my Grandpa's when a kid, I haven't really fired one.
What scares me is the gap between the cylinder and the barrel. Just seems like a place where the stuff and fragments from the bullet firing could end up back in the face of the shooter. Apparently not a problem but something that always concerned me. An old style black powder load or a paper and ball cartridge just seems like it would be worse. And it seems like the mechanism on some doesn't require perfect alignment to fire them.
I'll stick to automatics. Although if I ever purchase another weapon, besides an AR-15, it would probably be an old Sharps and maybe an old Colt pistol. Presently my Winchester 12 guage pump and Remington model 742 semi automatic 30.06 takes care of any hunting I want to do. My Gov. model Colt .45 automatic and .22 cal Ruger automatic pistols take care of shooting cans and varmits. (reminds me of the old can joke). But I did have the Ruger jam on me when shooting at a possum last year. Something about the magazine allowed the .22 cal long rifle bullet get jammed in cockeyed to where it wouldn't slide in straight. The end of the mag holding the bullets maybe bent a little or something. Seems like there is a lot of room for side to side movement at the end. Shorts or longs may feed better. Don't know if new ones would help or not.
