I was reading my copy of the RR last night and found the lead article very interesting. It referenced a compiled roster of LBH participants grave locations throughout the US. Does anybody know if this published document?

Topkick,
A very good question and if there is I would like to know. People are free to post on 'Find a Grave' and they have themed pages, I think there is one for the LBH. Perhaps they could be posted here under the Seventh Cav. page in lieu of a photo of the indidvidual? I talked with Joe Piertross last year and he had found Widmayer's grave in an old deserted grave yard behind a fire station in New Jersey. He cleared the weeds off and spruced it up. I would like to have a complete list of grave locations for soldiers and Indians of the battle.
I'll dig the RR out and investigate.

That's something a lot of people have worked on over the years. John Carroll, Ron Nichols, Judge Bill Moody and his son Joseph, even yours truly to a small extent, have all sought the graves of the 7th. It sounds like a perfect wiki project to me. If you all are game, I'll start it and others can add whatever info they have. Scout, I know Joe and don't doubt his word, but I just received an e-mail this weekend about Widmayer's grave. I think Joe might be wrong about this one. tinyurl.com/2tj6rr

I might be mistaken on the name Joe gave me. The memory ain't so good these days so before I harm Joe's good name I'll double check with him on who he said it was. Thanks Diane.

Tell Joe that Chuck and I send our best. It's been a long time since we've seen him.

I absolutely adored Randy Johnson's article; in fact it was so breezy and readable I gave it to my mom and dad to peruse. Randy and I both graduated from Palatine High (he in '64, me in '78), so there was a sense of a kind of homecoming of sorts in the narrative. There had always been crazy, morbid rumours we kids attached to the mentioned Ahlgrim's Funeral Home--the far-er out, the better--and it was nice to see the place was still in business and as helpful as they always were to the greater community--beyond mailing those rubber round things that help you open bottles and jars, a yearly treat in P-ville.
I loved the approachable nature of the narrative and especially the aspect of how one did not necessarily have to be a battle buff or even knowledgeable about LBH to enjoy its contents. Sometimes too many of us get caught in the minutae of "what happened when" to such an extent the subject becomes boring to those who are merely acquainted with Custer and the battle. And because we have oft-remarked upon this board since this year's conference, LBHA need an influx of new blood, I want to note this: the article can easily attract them pre-Custer regular folks!
I think Randy and Bill Boyes did a magnificent job of making this summer's Research Review more appealing to the general public. My mother now wants to learn more about the subject and Private Keegan! A buff-in-making ...? My MOM?

Diane,
Sounds like a plan to me. I will need to go back through my digi photos and catalog the contents. probably nothing new to anyone. Mostly graves from Riley, Leavenworth, and Arlington.

That's great. I've got some photos also, but I'll need to search for the ones from the pre-digital age. I used to search for graves whenever I traveled and place a red rose on the headstones (Peter Thompson has received a few!) but I haven't been very good about it in recent years.

That's a good find, Dude. There are some that can be added, but people can use that until I have time to set up the wiki version, which will include photos.

I am out here in Kansas for the National Cavalry Competition. If anyone would like some photos of soldiers graves, let me know and I'll snap a few shots this week. I think all of the graves at Leavenworth and Riley have been documented but in case there is a special request...just ask.
