I'm new here and just wanted to say hello.
I have been following some of the posts here and am wondering where you all get your books. I see references to several hard-to-find books. Do a lot of you use Ebay or used book dealers. I am interested in finding Magnusson's book on the Peter Thompson story and also "Tales from the Buffalo Land, The Story of Fort Buford". I have found both at online dealers but the prices are a bit steep. Any pointers or tips would be very much appreciated.
Thanks. Marc

Marc Welcome to these boards Tony, or should I call you 'Godfather' to avoid sleeping with the fishes? Sorry, but someone would have sooner or later! For books you could try the following:- The Custer Battlefield Historical & Museum Association, Inc. (CBHMA) website www.custerbattlefield.org and find the CBHMA Publications link. They don't have the Magnussen version of the Peter Thompson narrative but they do have it annotated by Walt Cross who comments on Magnussen's analysis. They don't have the 'Fort Buford' book you mention but if you e-mail Ron Nichols at MajorReno@msn.com he may know how to either obtain a copy for you or point you in the right direction. Another possible source is Richard Upton of Upton & Sons Publishers and Booksellers at rupton1@socal.rr.com If you have no luck from these sources please send me a Personal Message on these boards and I will send you more information. Good luck. "Hunk" Papa

Welcome, Tony!
Hunk gave you two great -- and fair -- sources. Unfortunately, out of print titles have become very expensive. You may have to bite the bullet and pay dearly for those books. As Hunk suggested, Walt Cross' book on Thompson may be a good alternative, and it is affordable.
Best wishes,
Diane

Thank you both for your replies. I believe you are right. Unless I strike it rich at some Indian Wars garage sale, I think I will have to pay dearly for those books. I always keep my eyes open. I will give the Walt Cross book a look.

I will give the Walt Cross book a look. There is presently on Amazon a copy of Burdick's "Tales from the Buffalo Land: The Story of Old Fort Buford" for $103.00. It is the cheapest price I have found and in your place I would go for it as you are unlikely to find one for less anywhere else. "Hunk" Papa

Try bookfinder.com. They search everything, and list in order of price. I have seen the same book going for prices from $3.79 to $166.50, depending on the edition and condition, and whether signed or not, etc.
