This is an article rather than a book, but it may be of interest for its mention of events and places we've discussed on the boards. I had never heard of Ridway Glover, but he had an interesting and, at the end, tragic life. On the site below you can see photos of the Lincoln funeral procession as it visited Indianapolis. www.cowboysindians.com/western/old-west/2010-03/glover.jsp

Ridgeway Glover's carelessness, foolishness and naivete is why we have no photographic record of life at Ft. Phil Kearny. He had the habit of going on long hikes alone in the Big Horns armed with only a knife. He had long blond Custer-like hair, prompting one Sgt. to joke that the Sioux would love to give him a haircut. That they did and more. Glover once told Carrington that no Indian would ever hurt him; that they would think him a Mormon, see he meant them no harm, and would leave him alone.

In one of my books there is a photo of this guy wearing his hat very jauntily (spelling?) while standing next to a mule/horse. It's been a while since seeing it but will go back to verify.
