Hey everyone, I thought I'd share some of my original paintings surrounding the events of the Great Sioux War with you. I will post more in the future. This first painting depicts Lt. James H. Bradley and three of his Crow scouts receiving the first news of Custer's defeat from Custer's three surviving crow scouts (not in the scene) whose presence is felt by the facial expressions and actions of the four men. This painting is entitled, "An Outcome so Different". Hope you enjoy! -Nate img154.imageshack.us/img154/9661/p6282172.jpg

Here's another one of Cooke and Custer's final moments. A suicide boy lies motionless in front of Cooke as the Canadian has just been struck by an arrow. I left a bit of mystery with Custer, leaving one to ask if he is raising one of his bulldog pistols to take a final shot or perhaps holding onto one of his brothers. -Nate img139.imageshack.us/img139/8700/p7032179.jpg

I think you captured the look of fear and hopelessness that there surely was in Custer's face as he witnessed the carnage falling upon the 7th, in its final moments.

Yes, great work. You have the soul of an artist. I see and feel the moment (in your portraits) when each man is forced to accept his fate and the great sorrow that accompanies that acceptance. So much sadness.

Thank you both WY Man and Red Dirt, I greatly appreciate it! Here's a couple of my first paintings from about a year ago. Keep in mind, they always look better in person "Custer's Fall" June 25, 1876 "One through the Smoke"-Reno-Benteen Battlefield

Cool that you did one of Reno/Benteen. There's not very many of that battle, at least that I've ever seen.

(Updated Version) With Curley here, I wanted him to look subdued at the events that had unfolded in the previous few hours, the day is hot, the sky filled with smoke and dust, his horses grazing over the hill while he takes a moment to stretch out and look for any sign of his enemies tracking him or perhaps some of his fellow Crow scouts moving in the same direction. img5.imageshack.us/img5/3663/pb052577.jpgimg193.imageshack.us/img193/6641/pb052578.jpg

Your work grows on a person, Nate. You seem to capture emotions very well. I'm looking forward to more from you!

Through the Smoke was not only fantastic, it was like a portal into the past, a peep hole into the fear and horror these men must have felt.

Here is my latest work, still a work in progress. George lies dead across a fallen trooper while a dead horse rests behind. Several other dead troopers can be seen through the heavy smoke that billows into the sky as daylight fades away. Weir Point rises in the background while smoke from the Reno-Benteen Defense can be seen behind that, hope you enjoy!
