I believe Gordie first appeared to us in the summer of 2006 as Harpskiddie. Unfortunately, he canceled that account at one point, so the date he registered for the boards is lost. It seems as if he has always been with us. He was a musician, baseball fanatic, and friend to all.
What you may not know: In addition to being the primary greeter of the boards -- he was usually the first to welcome a newcomer and offer happy birthday wishes -- Gordie kept me posted on who was missing from the boards. He genuinely cared about everyone and would be concerned if someone had not posted for a week or two.
"I've lost a treasured friend." ~ Montana Bab
"He was a great guy and a great friend." ~ bc
"Besides being one of the most knowledgeable people on these boards, Gordie was also kind to and patient with those less-knowledgeable." ~ Kitz
"Sometimes a person, merely by spoken or written word, communicates volumes about his or her character. Gordie communicated great heart, wit, and compassion." ~ montea
"A most enjoyable and honorable member of this forum will be greatly missed." ~ crzhrs
"The ultimate referee of these threads. I will miss his knowledge and his music." ~ runaheap
"I'll miss him and his silly emails with the latest joke or list he had found on the internet as well as his knowledge of the Indian Wars, particularly the Custer battle. Most of all, as with D.O. Harris, I'll miss his love of baseball. And like Lew, Gordie's love for and stories about music and the personalities he has known and played with." ~ Billy Markland
"We here, as a collective, are measurably diminished. The horse people here might well say that Gordie was a true thoroughbred, running for the finish line until his heart simply gave out." ~ brokensword
"I will miss his contributions to these boards, his good natured leg pulling and general wit." ~ gary
"Those of us here who loved him for so many different reasons can be comforted by the fact that he passed so peacefully and lived so graciously. We are blessed for having known him." ~ clw
