Has anyone else checked out Corb Lund? He had an album called Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier!, and it has a few tracks that are about the cavalry. I'm not much of a fan of modern country, but he falls into more of the alt-country world that I do enjoy. I think. Really, I don't care for the faux-pop or "its awesome being a redneck!" nonsense that passes for country. The kind of country I like, in case you were wondering, Dwight Yoakam, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, John Fogerty's solo stuff and the countryfied CCR tracks, The Mavericks, The Tractors. Rockabilly, most of 'em. And the other Corb Lund albums are very good as well. But I figured I'd let you guys know about this album. The first two tracks are about the cavalry, and the second one even mentions Custer and the Sioux. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corb_Lund

I was never a great fan of John Wayne but the best movie I ever saw of his was "The Horse Soldiers."

The rider looks as if he could carry the horse into battle at need.

Looks like Sheridan's famous Morgan stud, "Rienzi," ala "Winchester."
Crab...remember that Civil War theme album put out, I guess in the 70s? Someone refresh my memory...it had the song "Widowmaker" on it, but all the songs were about the Civil War. It was a band like the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, or some such...

Poco. I think that it is called Blue and Gray. I have the album, but am too lazy to try to find it. Now that I've inventoried my LBH books, I must sort out my vinyl.
Yeah, right,

Gordie, I saw the Widowmaker by Poco you referred to but got caught up in listening to Susie Boggus doing the WASP song of the same title Regarding Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier! you should be able to listen to tracks by going to this URL and selecting individual songs: www.rhapsody.com/corb-lundI'm listening to it right now off of Rhapsody and, so far, not too bad. Thanks Crabby! Billy

Thanks Karl, and all...
Brings back great memories...all those songs started playing in my head. I've got the vinyl here somewhere, but no longer any means to play it. <g>

Clair:
You can buy a fairly decent turntable/cartridge combination these days for under a C note. Next month, I'm going to buy an additional TT that records what it is playing directly onto your hard drive in MP3 format, so that you can then make CDs, or DVD compilations [you can get 40 odd albums on a DVD].
That will be my next major fill-time project - converting all my vinyl, and then selling it off. One can only spend so much time on the Little Horn stuff before getting tired of it, which has always been one of my problems, in addition to being lazy.

www.amazon.com/Blue-Gray-Poco/dp/B000002R30If anyone's got that album, Poco - Blue and Gray, its worth a nice chunk of change. Or at least that's what the going rate would be. Same goes for the Son of the Morning Star soundtrack, which I picked up a pristine copy of on eBay last year. For 40 bucks. After looking for months without any luck. If you want a copy off of Amazon, the price is 90 bucks or more.

Geez!! I was gonna stick it in a lawn sale with all the others and pre-price it at 2 bucks, since it's in good shape. The only ones I was thinking of selling on Ebay were the autographed ones. I can see that I have a lot of research to do, before I start pricing things.
Thanks for the info, Crabster!!!

Well, looking at it again, it might be the CD that's worth so much. Not sure about the vinyl. But regardless, you should research the albums before putting them out there. You never know what they could be worth.
