It's possible Bob Reece actually could see it from Longmont, but Boulder yesterday had a scary time with two huge grass fires in 80 knot winds. Scariest thing was going out to the parched ground today and seeing still unburned fields with gullies black forever going east downwind, meaning they must have been blowtorches last night. www.dailycamera.com/The paper has some great photos. The point being that for all the potential horror (and it was a close run thing, with the fire coming right up to densely built apartments and houses in North Boulder) it was quite beautiful to watch it on the hills, and it was a whiff of what Indians and settlers must have dealt with back in the day. Pretty much out, but it's scary seeing fire advance faster than particularly inspired horses can with people literally dicing with death trying to get out of the way. Fortunately, they all did.
