To anyone who knows:
A friend of mine from Seattle is planning on visiting the LBH this summer at Anniversary time [good luck to him!!]. He was interested in perhaps meeting some of the "experts" who would be in the area at the time, and I told him that the best thing to do was to attend at the same time as the LBHA Conference, which will be in Billings in 2009, and to seek out some of the guys and gals at said conference, assuring him that he would be made welcome, and that his admitted lack of knowledge would only make it more likely that he would find the assistance he was seeking.
So, of course, he asked me when the Conference was being held, and I had to admit that Doctor Knowitall could not, in fact, live up to his nickname. I checked the LBHA website - nada. I asked Diane if she knew, but she was at a loss as well, although she thought that she had seen June 21-23 somewhere.
Someone PLEASE help me help my friend, and let me know the dates, if they have been confirmed, or advise if they have not been.
Thanks a bunch,
Gordie

21-23 it is. Bill Blake was kind enough to give me the information. If you're going, look for a fair-sized guy named Stan Zupan making a nuisance of himself with countless questions.

Gordie, He'll have to stand in line with the rest of us nuisances. Bring his gps, binocs, and hiking shoes. Don't forget plenty of cash to lose at the casino by the front gate. Assuming I go, I'll probably schedule a late night/early morning stroll around part of the battlefield to get a feel for the battlefield at night, listen to coyotes, star gaze, and start a conversation with a few ghosts. Maybe bring some lawn chairs/blankets or something to sit on.
The moon phase on June 22, 2009 is new moon (same as June 21, 1876) which means total darkness. According to the moon phase calculator, the moon phases in June 2009 only run a day later than 1876. June 25, 1876 (equivalent to June 26, 2009) would have been a quarter (25%) slice moon and about 4 days after the new moon(a waxing moon). For a point of reference (assuming I did the calculations right), night of 12-30-08 would be the same moon as the trip to the crow's nest on 6-24-1876. New Years Eve this year (12-31-08 which is 4 days after new moon) would have about the same moon as the night of June 25, 1876. New years night = June 26, 1876 and so on.
On another point of reference with the moon (now waning) going in the opposite direction, this saturday night (12-20-08) would have the equivalent moonlight as June 25, 1876, the Friday night moon would equal June 26, 1876, and the Sunday night moon would equal the crow's nest approach on June 24, 1876.
One caveat to remember is that it was raining on the night of June 25, 1876 so the moon was probably obscurred by clouds and thus pitch dark.
I show the June 19th, 2009 crow's nest horse ride as a Friday. June 21 to 23, 2009 as a Sunday to Tuesday. I suspect the hotel would be the same one the other organization used last year in Billings. Probably the Holiday Inn Grand Montana. If so, I'd assume a block of rooms have been reserved. Call early to get that pool side room.
I have it calendared, now to keep the schedule clear and setup vacation at the same time. Always a chore.

bc:
That's the hotel, all right. I posted same om the Associates board in response to a question from Melani. I'd look at the moon this weekend, except that we are slated for a new front, and a snow storm on Sunday.
Are you figuring the times as Chicago 1876, nautical twilight time [by the Platters] or Burns and Allen? I do know that the moon is usually out late at night, if at all, although I swear I saw it in the daytime the other week - so I went back to bed.
Stan is a true "nubile" as conz might say, and I think he is going only so that he can tell me to stuff it when I nag him about getting involved in "research and study."
Enjoy the Holidays!!!

Yeah. It was Saturday in the Park - I think it was the Fourth of July.
People who actually live in Chicago are not eligible for this exercise.
