Here’s another relationship story surrounding LBH actors:
“Gall did not fare so well in one of his trading visits to Fort Berthold. There a long-simmering enmity with a prominent Ree finally boild over and nearly cost Gall his life. The Ree was an able young man in his early twenties named Bloody Knife. Born of a Hunkpapa father and a Ree mother, he had been reared a Hunkpapa, but when about twelve had accompanied his mother when she decided to return to her own people. Ever since, Bloody Knife had been a Ree. Feuds dating from childhood, reinforced during a later visit to his father’s tribe, kindled in Bloody Knife a deep hatred for both Gall and Sitting Bull. Beginning with General Sully, Bloody Knife pursued his vendetta by making himself useful to a succession of Long Knife chiefs.”
What do others find interesting about Bloody Knife? Anyone like to conjecture why he may have been with Reno, rather than Custer, that day?

Clair:
What happened to his body afterward is quite interesting - a family affair, as it were. As to his having been sent with Reno - some have seen some special significance in that, and I believe it has been belabored on these threads somewhere. I know that there has been some speculation that he was, perhaps, meant to keep an eye on Reno, and possibly to lend a little "nerve" to him.
The more prosaic truth is that ALL of the scouts were ordered to accompany Reno, with the exception of Bouyer and the Crows [which might indicate that Custer had already.............]. White Swan and Half-Yellow-Face misunderstood, and went with Reno's command. I don't think that there is any big story there.
Custerland, as dc would say, perhaps.

Thanks Gordie...as reward, do you recognize this Old Army ditty?
"I'm Captain Jenks, of the Horse Marines, I feed my horse on corn and beans, And often live beyond my means, I'm a Captain in the Army!
"When I left home, my Momma she cried, Momma she cried, Momma she cried, "When I left home, my Momma she cried...he's not cut out for the Army!...

Many of us are familiar with stories of families torn apart on two sides of the same war, and such is the case with Bloody Knife...one foot Ree and the other foot Hunk, two bitter enemies.
On the other side of the field, the same could be said for CPT Benteen, who fought against his own father.
