Since there is no way the Georgian Army or the Russian could assemble in bulk without our satellites knowing, anybody in the Pentagon who says we were surprised is lying. That, or else they should all be shot for incompetence. Your sources seem no better informed than the Russian media.
Georgia was probably promised support for this in exchange for their participation in Iraq so we could pretend we had allies. We were to threaten Russia and keep them out. Brilliant. It would be just like this administration.
Whatever the reason, deep stupidity is the cause, and let's hope Bush doesn't have a Will Rogers moment: stupidity (I've looked into Putin's soul.....) got us into this, why can't stupidity get us out?

I'm loath to get into politics, but I like McCain's take on Putin..."When I look into his eyes, I see the KGB".

We weren't surprised by it...we were just pissed about it and couldn't talk them out of it. Our advisers are still there, and back to training their Army. We're trying to get them up to NATO standards, and still have a long way to go... We are supporting Georgia...we are training their military to get up to NATO standards. There was no defense agreement for our military to defend them against Russia...but there WILL be once they are in NATO! Note that we had a combat brigade of the Army doing exercises in Georgia in July...they had just finished this event and left the country when Georgia moved its army into their Ossetia province. That is your opinion based upon what I consider to be erroneous assumptions, of course. Estonia is now a part of NATO...I wonder what would happen if Russia tried the same thing to them? Clair

You Bet Bab's! LBH is the excellerant to the so-called Indian situation. The Military get's "carte Blanche", the political and public opinion slant is right there in the "Let's get Revenge" and wipe out the savages mode. The real looser's are the Indians and buffalo, they start getting slaughtered rather copiously! Is there any real lesson learned? Yes, don't let them congregate in any large groups. They don't, until Wouded Knee, and then the Re-constituted 7th is there to bring them into line some 14 1/2 years later. The 7th slaughters everything, and I understand that in December of 1890, a lot of "friendly fire" goes on. These Wasicus still can't hit anything!

LMAO. I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist. Runaheap laid down the NDN perspective so cleanly! It means 'Well said' or 'just so'.
