"Opinions count for little. I have enough of my own that I do not require others. Facts, sources are another matter." ~ D.O. Harris |
"On June 7, 2007, my dad, Dale O. Harris Jr., died [in Davenport, Iowa]. He was 70 years old. He loved reading and debating on the forums he belonged to. . . . Thank you all for being part of what made his last few years so enjoyable and please, in honor of him, continue to learn, read and keep your mind alive." ~ His Daughter
What you may not know about him:
Mr. Harris coached Little League baseball in the 1970's and 80's. His team won the City Tournament in 1980, as well as two championships. He was employed for 23 years by International Harvester, Rock Island, retiring in 1983. Dale wrote short stories in the 1960's and was an amateur historian, with an emphasis on the life of General George Armstrong Custer in the 7th Cavalry. (from his obituary)
"He had a wonderfully clear and incisive mind, and I learned a lot from him. We are all the poorer for his passing. I have lost a good friend." ~ Elisabeth
"I know he was both a serious researcher and a man with a mind open to new ideas. . . . He seemed to enjoy a good, hot debate."
~ Gord Harper
"I will terribly miss him. It was always a pleasure either corresponding with him or simply reading his posts. And while I respected his knowledge about Custer, I particularly enjoyed his posts on baseball. . . . We all are better off for the memories." ~ Billy Markland
"His comments and contributions were some of the best." ~ AZ Ranger
"He had some of the most brilliant posts I have seen on this board and his advice to me, his affection, his trust, his caring, his pushing me will never be replaced. . . . Dale Harris was a brilliant man, not just because of his knowledge of the old West, but because he understood. . . . My God, I shall miss him." ~ Fred
