Has anyone here ever stayed there? Just wondering how it is. They have pretty cheap rates for late August.

I stayed there when I went to see the Hardin reenactment in June of 98 It is made of cinder-blocks and from what I remember the dead-bolt was paper mached very nicely to the door. The non-english speaking staff was very helpfull and the water ran clear after a few minuets. You might be able to save money if you rent your room by the hour too...
Colonel Keogh and I drove past it just last week and it looked much the same. The American Inn or Super 8 would be your best bet.

I stayed at the American Inn last year. Decent place.

Is the Lariat Hotel the one on Main Street? I've never stayed there but it looked like an ok Mom and Pop operation. I've stayed at the Western Hotel on the west side of Hardin. That hotel was fine except there no showers, only baths.
From what I've heard, the American Inn is the place to stay in Hardin. There's always Billings. Billings is only like 45 minutes to an hour from the battlefield.

The Super 8 is much nicer than the American Inn.

If someone does choose to stay in Billings (where you can actually get yourself a meal devoid of something fried), do NOT stay at the Holiday Inn (not to be confused with the Holiday Inn Express on the north side of I-90). Last anniversary-time, our pal spent two nights there with a broken shower and a disgustingly made bed--he continually asked for someone to at least fix the shower and got the reply: "use the bath." He swore he'd never go back.
This same friend, however, loves the Lariat ... me, I'm the type that looks for a fridge, a microwave, and a working hair dryer. If any of you have any recommendations in Hardin that fit these requirements, lemme know.

The American Inn room I stayed in had a working fridge and microwave. I don't remember about the hair dryer, as I don't use one.
I wouldn't doubt that the Super 8 is better, but there was four of us and the American had accomodations that allowed all of us to stay together.

The American Inn's walls are pretty thin. I could actually hear someone pass gas in the next room the one time I stayed there. The Camp Custer Motel is worse than any of them. Cinderblock walls, ants and the bathroom mirror is on a different wall than the sink. It is the cheapest motel in Hardin though.

I forgot to mention that the train goes by across the street about every two hours of the day and night. Since there is an intersection about fifty yards up the street, they make sure to lay on their whistle every time they go by.

Okay--
Y'all have got me quite worried about Hardin. I'm guessing you go there to sleep and party, rather than to enjoy the plush accomodations. Any referrals on any B&Bs?

I get a cabin at the KOA. Not plush but not overly expensive. They are all taken for the anniversary week by now. Your best bet if you want comfort is Billings. It is closer than Sheridan by about 25-30 miles.

Leyton, You might try the Becker. It's listed under B&Bs at the website below. I think someone told me it was renovated last year. www.hardinmt.com/Otherwise, Gumby is right about going to Billings rather than Sheridan. Billings has most of the chains within view of the Interstate. Call now because Billings has been known to fill up also. Diane
