"I cannot understand why the three companies did not try and help those that jumped off the bank, or why all of them didn't cross over and fight in the village" clearly he asks himself why these companies haven't supported RENO(that jumped off the bank) , and why the whole regiment has not charged the village ,instead of only reno's companies Yes, shatonska. I think you have hit that hammer on the nail. As you point out, Brave Bear was most likely referring to Reno and why the entire regiment did not cross over and engage the Indians in the village. Good work here.

"There is some evidence, in the form of notes by Walter Camp from a statement by the Minneconjou Flying By [see Camp], that someone in the Finley group may have been the last man killed. According to Flying By, the last man killed "rode a horse" and "fell over near where Sergeant Finley was found later."

It seems to further support Michno's theory that the Finley Ridge position survived the fall of Calhoun Hill and the Keogh swale area. If true, it would tend to cast doubt on the model of C Co's shattering and being driven back to L & I Co. positions from LWM's charge, and might be an indication that LWM's charge (if it occurred in this sector at all) may not have been quite as successful as once thought.
